The Criminal Investigations Unit conducts overt investigations into criminal occurrences. The Investigations Unit focuses on crimes involving adult perpetrators.

The Criminal Investigations Section aids and assists the City Attorney, the Oakland County Prosecutors Office or other prosecuting agencies in case preparation and prosecution. The Section acts as a support unit to all other divisions, sections, units and community policing efforts within the Troy Police Department.
