The Special Investigations Section conducts undercover investigations into criminal matters. This Section is comprised of the Special Investigations Unit, the Criminal Information Unit, and liaisons to the Oakland County Curtail Auto Theft Unit, the Southeast Michigan Crime Suppression Task Force, and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

The Special Investigations Section relies on information obtained from a variety of sources, including anonymous tips and confidential informants.

The Sections goal is to develop sufficient evidence to proceed with a prosecution against criminal offenders that have victimized our community and eluded conventional police efforts to apprehend them. The Special Investigations Section acts as a support unit to all other divisions, sections, units and community policing efforts within the Troy Police Department.
