Jessica Morse

The Police Department is pleased to announce the selection of Police Service Aide Jessica Morse as the 2008 Non-Sworn Employee of the Year.

PSA Morse began her career with the Troy Police Department on September 14, 1998.  She has worked in the Communications and Lockup Sections.  She is currently assigned to the Investigative Services Division Property Unit.

In addition to outstanding performance during 2008, many accomplishments throughout the career of PSA Morse make her a most worthy recipient of the award.

PSA Morse was assigned to the Police Department Communications Section in 2008.  The Communications Section is typically the first point of contact for citizens in need of police service and often their opinion of the Police Department is formed in that initial encounter.  The demands created by those calls alone are tremendous, and when considering the technological abilities required of Communications Section employees, and the need to provide support to Officers in the field, it is clear that her assignment was demanding and important to the safety of Police Department employees and the quality of life in the community.

During 2008, PSA Morse demonstrated exceptional abilities, a commitment to providing excellent service, and a personal dedication to helping others.  The following is a brief synopsis of some of the accomplishments that resulted in her selection for this award:

·         In 2008, she served as a Communications Training Officer, responsible for the in service training of new PSAs assigned to the Communications Section.  Her coworkers rely on her guidance and assistance, in addition to her willingness to volunteer for extra responsibilities.

·         Her ability to interact with various personalities and positive attitude have helped to improve the morale of fellow employees and attitude of many of the citizens calling for police service.

·         Each year, she volunteers to assist with Police Memorial Day ceremonies and awards presentations.

·         During the 2007 and 2008 holiday seasons, she was a driving force in organizing the Communications Sections collection of gifts for families in need.

·         In 2007, she acted calmly and responsibly while fielding telephone calls during a workplace violence office shooting incident.  She received the initial call for help and promptly obtained accurate information to relay to the employee dispatching Police Officers to the scene.

·         In November, 2008, her technical and research abilities with the various Police Department electronic communications and records management systems caused her to identify the address of a heart attack victim who was unable to provide his location.

The commitment of PSA Morse to provide outstanding service to other Police Department employees and the community is commendable.  She is a credit to both, this Police Department, and the law enforcement profession.

The Police Department congratulates PSA Morse for her achievements, including this prestigious award.
