Melinda Weingart

The Police Department is pleased to announce the selection of Police Officer Melinda Weingart as the 2008 Police Officer of the Year. 

Officer Weingart began her career with the Troy Police Department on August 13, 2003.  She has worked in the Patrol/ Operations Division and Traffic Safety Unit.  She is currently assigned to Operations Division Patrol Shift 3.  

In addition to outstanding performance during 2008, many accomplishments throughout Officer Weingarts career make her a most worthy recipient of the award.

Officer Weingart has received the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) award for excellence in the enforcement of drinking and driving laws for 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008.  She holds the Police Departments record for yearly Operating While Intoxicated arrests, with a five year total of 272.  The Police Department will never know how many lives she has saved through her enforcement efforts.

During 2008, Officer Weingart demonstrated exceptional abilities, a commitment to providing excellent police service, and a personal dedication to helping others.  The following is a brief synopsis of some of the 2008 incidents that resulted in her selection for this award:

• 02/08/2008 - CPR on a non-responsive citizen
• 04/07/2008 - Interrupted two suspects in the process of committing a Larceny From an Automobile
• 04/14/2008 An arrest for Operating While Intoxicated 2^nd Offense, in which she confiscated a  loaded handgun, marijuana, and open intoxicants
• 06/28/2008 An Operating While Intoxicated  2^nd offense arrest after a hit and run traffic crash
• 08/03/2008 A Larceny From an Automobile arrest
• 08/23/2008 An assault investigation that resulted in Aggravated Assault charges on the suspect

In her more than five years with the Police Department, Officer Weingart has consistently demonstrated dedication, enthusiasm and commitment in her service to the community.  She always acts promptly to assist other Officers and follows through on all her case investigations.  In 2007, her thoroughness resulted in the apprehension of a suspect in a Criminal Sexual Conduct incident and an arrest in a Home Invasion. 

Officer Weingart has displayed the ability to fulfill the diverse and numerous expectations of todays police officer.  She is a credit to both, this Police Department, and the police profession.
