Officer Michael Boussie
Troy Police Chief Charles T. Craft is proud to announce that Officer Michael Boussie has been selected as Troy Police Officer of the Year for 2006. Officer Boussie was chosen for this prestigious award as a result of outstanding performance during 2006, longstanding professional career accomplishments, as well as his willingness to accept and excel at duties beyond those required for his position.
Officer Boussie has thirty-one years of police service with this department. In addition to serving as a Patrol Officer, Officer Boussie currently serves as an Evidence Technician. He has served in numerous special assignments over his career, including Field Training Officer, Bike Patrol Unit officer, Tactical Support Team member, Directed Patrol Unit officer, Oakland County Narcotics Enforcement Team officer, and Traffic Safety Unit officer.
Over his career, Officer Boussie has received ten police service medals for outstanding achievements, fifty written commendations for excellent performance, and thirty-five letters of positive recognition and thanks from both citizens and other law enforcement agencies. In 1987 he was a member of the Directed Patrol Unit when its five members received that year's Officer of the Year recognition for being the most productive unit in the department with 215 felony and 158 misdemeanor arrests.
In recognizing Officer Boussie's performance over 2006, Chief Craft cited a June, 2006 incident where Officer Boussie noticed a suspicious occupied vehicle during the late night hours at Troy Athens High School. His investigation indicated the group of young men was planning a break-in at the school. The suspects were identified, burglary tools recovered, and the break-in attempt thwarted. On another occasion, Officer Boussie was assisting in the investigation of a breaking and entering of a gas station. A witness obtained a license plate for the suspect vehicle, however the plate came back to an address out of Clarkston. Through his computer skills, Officer Boussie was able to locate a connection between the registered owner of that vehicle and an address in Troy. That discovery lead to the location of the suspect vehicle and arrest of the suspects at the Troy address. In October of 2006, while monitoring police activities in bordering jurisdictions, Officer Boussie located a vehicle wanted by the Madison Heights Police Department in connection with a shots fired/fleeing vehicle incident. Officer Boussie's work as an Evidence Technician in processing crime scenes provided critical evidence necessary for arrests and convictions in significant cases in 2006, including possession of cocaine, larceny from auto, auto theft, breaking and entering, and homicide.
This selection recognizes Officer Boussie's day-to-day performance, professionalism, and dedication over a thirty-one year police career. His longstanding service is a credit not only to this Department, but also to the police profession in general. The Troy Police Department is proud to recognize all of these achievements in selecting Officer Michael Boussie as its 2006 Police Officer of the Year.
