Property Unit

The Property Unit is responsible for the intake, storage and disposal of all evidence, seized property, lost/found items and prisoner property. The unit is also responsible for issuing and tracking all Police Department equipment and fixed assets.
Approximately 5,000 items are processed through the Property Unit each year. One Police Service Aide is assigned full-time and one is assigned part-time to the Property Section to manage the inventory.
The Property Unit coordinates the surplus action of all unclaimed property, some well used Police Department property and forfeited property through the Michigan Inter-governmental Trade Network (MITN).
If you have lost an item within the City of Troy, or wish to find out more about the auctions, please contact Police Service Aide Jessica Morse.
Bicycles tend to be the most space-consuming items in the property room. Every year we dispose dozens of unclaimed bicycles. The Property Unit would like to encourage residents to use the bicycle registration form to register and label their bicycles with the Police Department. This will allow them to identify the owners of found or recovered bicycles and return the property to them. This is a free service to Troy residents.
The Property Unit is supervised by Sergeant Justin Novak.
