Retail Liaison Unit
The law enforcement needs of those conducting retail trade differ greatly from the needs of the typical Troy resident. Shoplifting, credit card fraud, bad checks and embezzlement are but a few of the unique problems retailers face.
With approximately 5.6 million square feet of retail space located in Troy, retailers comprise a large and important segment of our community. The Retail Liaison Officer program, an element of the department’s Community Oriented Policing philosophy, was created to address retailers unique needs.
The Retail Liaison Officer assists the retail community in identifying, preventing and investigating retail crime. The officer also communicates the retailers concerns to patrol officers, investigators and the Police Department administration.
In addition, the Liaison Officer works with security and loss prevention personnel in developing security programs aimed at enhancing shopper safety, and assist in planning the Police Department’s response to special events occurring within the retail environment. The Retail Liaison Officer not only concerns himself with the large scale retail outlets, but also works closely with convenience stores, restaurants and grocers.
