Prada glass frames were discovered missing from the case in question w/a total
value of $2964.00. On 8/8 the
same two subjects entered the store and while one distracted the clerk by

of the car arrived at Troy PD claiming when he filed a stolen vehicle report
with Sterling Heights PD after his car was stolen in their city, they advised
him that Troy PD had recovered his car.
Officers followed up with Sterling Heights who confirmed the stolen
vehicle report, but advised they had not given the complainant any
information that Troy recovered the car. (The car had not yet been entered into the computer system
as impounded at the time stolen vehicle report was made.) When the 19 year old from
Sterling Heights was confronted with the discrepancy in his story, as well as
briefed on being charged with a felony for filing a “false police report”
with Sterling Heights he eventually admitted lending the car to a 27-year-old
male from Sterling Heights. He

open and several unsealed beers were located inside the vehicle, as was a
marijuana pipe. Investigation
revealed the Blazer was stolen from Waterford by the 17-year-old male from
West Bloomfield; the keys were recovered from him. The female was located in the computer system as a missing
person/run-away from Waterford. The two males indicated they had also been
drinking cough medicine. Due to
their high level of intoxication, including vomiting and barely able to
stand, all three were transported to the hospital for treatment. Parents/guardians were contacted,
summoned to the hospital, and the three subjects were released to the care of
medical personnel and parents/guardians. Charges pending. Cosmetic Surgery, 6585

Sterling Heights came to the station to report that he was involved in a
traffic altercation with another driver. He stated at some point the other driver got out of his
car and approached complainant’s window asking if he wanted to make something
out of it. When complainant
stated he didn’t want to fight, he stated suspect punched him in the face and
then drove off in a blue ’04 Dodge Neon which registers to a 29-year-old male
from Grand Blanc. Welfare Checks: Troy Officers responded to

R, 8/7, 0315 hrs. Troy Fire and PD responded
to a fire and entry alarm at the location and discovered the south window
smashed out by a brick and two incendiary devices/Molotov cocktails were
thrown inside. Damage was
minimal due to the fire suppression/sprinkler system and response of Troy
Fire. No one was inside the
building at the time; no injuries.
Lab analysis is being conducted on the accelerant, however it appears
gasoline was used. Somerset South, 2801 W.
Big Beaver, 8/6, 1430 hrs. Officers responded to a
report of a male subject attempting to make purchases with what was suspected
as counterfeit Western Union Money Orders. Officers stopped the vehicle subject was driving in the
lot. The 22-year-old male driver
from Detroit stated he purchased the money orders to pay some bills, but
decided to use them to make some purchases instead. As the vehicle was being stopped his 26-year-old female
passenger from Detroit was observed throwing a baggie into the back seat that
turned out to be marijuana. She
was arrested. It was also
determined that she provided false identification to officers, and was
charged with that as well.
Apparently the driver attempted to make two purchases with the money
orders. He was successful with a
$500.00 purchase at one store, but turned down for a second purchase at
another store. He had an
outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction for which he was arrested. A fraudulent ID was discovered on his
person. When questioned
regarding the validity of the money orders, he stated he was in enough trouble
and declined to provide additional information. One unused money order was recovered. A copy of the money order used to
make the purchase in question, along with the items purchased were
confiscated pending determination of the validity of the money orders.
Investigation continues. Birchwood, 8/7, 1910 hrs. Officers responded to a report
that a small child riding a 4 wheel ATV struck a parked car. Officers spoke to resident who stated
he bought a 50 cc Polaris 4 wheeler for his 4-year-old son and a 75 cc
Polaris for his 7-year-old son.
He stated the 4 year old was riding it and hit the car in
question. He stated they are
moving soon, and he had been letting his sons ride the vehicles around the
neighborhood so they could get practice riding them for when they arrived at
their new home. He did not feel
they were in danger and claimed they wore helmets while riding. Officers obtained additional
information that the children have been riding the vehicles throughout the
neighborhood, without helmets for the last couple days, including riding them
in the street causing motorists to swerve to avoid hitting them. Apparently the older child drove his
4 wheeler into the same-parked car the day before, lodging it underneath
it. On neither occasion did the
car sustain any appreciable damage; there were no significant injuries. The father told officers he did not
know the vehicles could not be legally driven on the streets. Case turned over to Protective
Services for investigation; possible charges against father also pending. Arrest Summary: In addition to those
outlined above, the following arrests were also made during the period: Drove While License
Suspended: 14 (Baggie of
marijuana found in suspect’s possession for which he was also charged.) Domestic Assault: 4 Drunk/Intoxicated

Larcenies from Autos / Car Theft Things that can
be done to combat auto theft and larcenies from autos include: Ø
Installing a car alarm or kill switch. Ø
Using
steering-wheel locking applications like the club etc. Ø
Applications
of a hidden kill switch to the ignition system. Ø
Park in a
well lit well traveled area if possible. Ø
Always
maintain security of vehicle keys. Ø
Do
not leave anything of value in your vehicle in plain view. Ø
Always lock
your vehicle doors. Ø
Never leave
a vehicle unattended while running. Ø
There is a
trend of things being stolen from vehicles in the parking lots of fitness
centers and fun centers. While going to these places, be extra careful to
remove all items of value and secure your vehicle. Home Invasion / B&E Always secure
your doors and windows. Ø
Garages and
door walls are targets for thieves. Ø
Always
ensure your garage door and pedestrian doors are secured. Ø
Do not leave
garage door remote controls in cars not parked in the garage. Ø
Use 1 ½’’
dowel rod in the track of all sliding glass windows and doors to help prevent
them from opening. Ø
It has been
proven time and time again that the proper use and application of physical
security will stop a would-be burglar. Ø
Burglary
alarms are only as reliable as the person setting them. If you have an alarm, make sure that
every resident or employee knows how to activate and deactivate it, as well
as the security code. Vandalism Prevention
The best way to
protect yourself from this crime, or from being held financially responsible
for the acts of your kids, is to know where your children are, what they are
doing, and whom their friends are.
Kids are very tech-savvy, and use the latest means to communicate. We have had numerous cases where
middle and high-school aged kids have made clandestine plans using their home
computer and instant-messaging programs (AIM, Yahoo Messenger, etc.) to
communicate with their friends, unbeknownst to their parents (no phones
ringing in the middle of the night.)
They sneak out of the house and meet up to go and commit all sorts of
crimes. This is not only
illegal, but it is very dangerous. ·
Talk with your kids and encourage them to tell you about
any problems with other kids. ·
Monitor your child’s instant messages. ·
Don’t put computers with Internet access in their
bedrooms. ·
Lock the doors to the house and set alarms when you go
to bed. ·
Make a habit of checking on the kids, no matter what
age, in the middle of the night, just to make sure they are where they are
supposed to be (especially when hosting sleepovers.) Let them know that you are checking. ·
Check your vehicles for new damage or signs of being
involved in vandalism - Mud on tires or wheel-wells, baseball bats with
gouges or glass in them, egg cartons, knives or other sharp objects that are
out of place in a car, cans of spray paint or shaving cream (yes shaving
cream and eggs damage
paint.) If you suspect that your
kids have been out vandalizing property, or committing any other crimes, you can
contact the Police Department Juvenile Unit, or Troy Youth Assistance for
advice. Juvenile Unit – 248-524-3451 Youth
Assistance - 248-823-5095 General If you witness a crime: Ø
get involved Ø
call the police It is
easier to catch a criminal if we are called right away, while they are still
in the area. Larcenies from Autos / Car Theft | ||
