weren’t trying to damage one of his cars. He called 911 on his cell. They were gone when officers arrived, apparently scared
off by a fire truck that went by with sirens sounding, thinking it was the
police. Complainant explained

on assaulting him. Apparently
similar rumors from other sources were heard by the second youth; he had

22-year-old male from Berkley.
Apparently they were together.
According to the 22 and 24 year olds, while exiting through the lobby
the 37 year old came running out towards them, accused the 24 year old of
making faces at him, and grabbed the 24 year old by the throat. When the 22 year old tried to get
between them, the 37 year old punched him in the face. At that point a fight ensued between

driveway. Responding officers
located the stolen truck as it emerged from the subdivision and headed south
on Rochester Road. Officers
followed the truck from a distance as it continued into Royal Oak while they
waited for other units to arrive in the area. At one point it sped away, however Royal Oak and Berkley
patrol units located and got it stopped on Catalpa and Henley several minutes
later. The suspect fled on foot.

Officers arrived and spoke to the 25-year-old male from Ohio who
indicated he had no cash, so opened several credit accounts at several stores
to purchase items. While
on-site, complainant received a call from a relative of the subject warning
them not to allow him to open accounts or make purchases, asserting possible
credit fraud related to narcotics addiction. The purchase was turned down and the account closed. No losses. Suspect is currently in detox. in Ohio. Leisure Escapes, 755 W.

$382.00 fraudulently removed from her checking account with her ATM
card. She had an acquaintance
taking care of her after some surgery.
She gave the person her ATM card to withdraw $20.00 from her account
on the 13th, and discovered $80.00 had been withdrawn on that
date. The subject was also
present at her house on the 14th, left at one point, and then
returned. Complainant discovered
a second unauthorized withdrawal of $300.00 made using her card on that
date. When the officer
confronted the subject about the transactions, she denied involvement. Complainant reported his
roommate stole seven of his personal checks, forged them, and cashed them for
a total of $800.00. In addition to the above,
two credit fraud report was taken, and one check fraud complaint was taken
wherein a check taken by a business for $363.88 came back “no account.” One additional ID/credit

located approximately 60 grams of marijuana in a baggie in a sweatshirt that
belonged to him inside the car for which he was also charged. 1.5 grams of marijuana and a
marijuana pipe that belonged to the 18-year-old female driver from Auburn
Hills were located inside the car, as well. She was arrested and charged for those items. Embezzlements: Mobil
Gas Station, 1881 E. 14 Mile, 10/15 Manager came to the
station and initiated an embezzlement report against a 22-year-old male
former employee from Sterling Heights suspected of taking lottery tickets and
scratching them off, and not paying for them. When confronted by the manager after she discovered a
discrepancy in tickets sold versus monies received for tickets on 9/26, the
suspect admitted he scratched off 14 tickets without paying for them. He agreed to make restitution. An audit was conducted, and
approximately $2400.00 in lottery tickets was found not paid for during the
suspect’s shifts. Investigation
continues. Home Invasions: Niles street, 10/14,
0100-0330 hrs. Officers summoned to a
duplex on Niles Street at 0700 hours when complainant received a call from
Sylvan Lake PD inquiring if he knew the whereabouts of his ’99 Toyota
Corolla. They explained to him
that when their officer tried to stop it around 0600 hours, it fled, crashed
and two male subjects fled/escaped on foot. Upon checking his house, complainant discovered the
bathroom window screen ripped open, his keys missing, front door unlocked,
and his Toyota missing from the drive.
The resident in the adjoining duplex reported he was asleep on the
sofa in his living room. When he
woke up in the morning, he discovered his car keys missing from the coffee
table, two cell phones missing from the living room, as well as his
Mitsubishi missing from the driveway.
The bathroom window screen was cut and the window open. The front door was found unlocked; he
knew he had locked it. When
officers checked with another resident in a nearby house, he reported hearing
noises at about 0200 hours as if someone was trying to open the front
door. He went downstairs to
investigate and it appeared normal.
He stated he heard car doors slamming and voices outside. He saw a dark colored truck in the
roadway, but no one around. In
the morning he discovered pry marks on his bathroom window; no entry was
gained. A resident on Blackwell,
which is just north of Niles, reported that at approximately 0300 hours he
responded to a knock at his front door.
He stated there was four B/M’s standing outside who indicated they
were part of a neighborhood watch group, and requested he open his door so
they could speak with him. When
he didn’t open it and alerted the other residents in the home, they departed
and entered a large black pickup, which left the area. There was a fifth individual inside
the truck. While Troy officers
were investigating these incidents, Orchard Lake PD contacted Troy and
advised they had located, detained the two suspects who fled from the crashed
Toyota, and transported them to Sylvan Lake. Troy Investigators went to SLPD and took the 14 and
15-year-old males from Pontiac into custody. Juvenile court petitions were initiated against them; they
were processed, and eventually released to parents. The incidents appear to have occurred between 0100-0300
hrs. The other three suspects
are described as B/M’s, mid to late teens. The Mitsubishi is still out; investigation continues. Renshaw, 10/12, 1455 hrs. Complainant reported as

blower was stolen from his landscape service trailer. Spectadium, 2511
Livernois, 10/13, 230 hrs. Waitress reported waiting
on two males and a female. When
she observed the three subjects leave quickly, she went to the table to check
if they paid their $89.55 tab, and found they had not. She saw two cars pulling away outside
about the same time; one was a Dodge Dakota, the other a gray Ford truck. Apparently
they were with a larger group that was present earlier, the majority of which
had left after one of the group paid the group’s tab with a credit card. After the group left, the three who
remained behind asked the waitress to start another tab for them. Kohl’s, 1265 Coolidge,
10/15, 1530-1600 hrs. Complainant stated she set
her purse down while looking at clothes, and shortly thereafter noticed it
was missing. While canceling her
credit cards, she learned two fraudulent purchases for a total of $400.00

left her purse in the waiting room of her eye-doctor’s office. When she realized it was missing and
returned to claim it, it was gone. While contacting her credit card
companies, she discovered a fraudulent purchase was attempted using a gift
card she had in her purse, however the transaction was refused as the card
had less money left on it than the purchase. Home Goods, 600 John R,
10/16, 1500-1800 hrs. Complainant came to the
station to report she left her purse in her shopping cart while
shopping. She later discovered
her wallet missing from the purse. Larcenies from Autos: Office Lot, 50 W. Big
Beaver, 10/112, 1200-1400 hrs. Wheel

W. Big Beaver, 10/13, 1615 hrs. GMC Envoy parked in
parking structure had driver’s side rear window smashed out and purse
containing credit cards and $20,000.00 in cash stolen. While on-scene speaking with
officers, complainant began contacting her credit card companies and was
advised a fraudulent purchase attempt just occurred at a gas station/convenience
store in Warren. A second
attempt was made for a purchase of $622.28 worth of miscellaneous children’s
items at another location in Warren shortly thereafter, wherein the purchase
was refused and the card confiscated by the clerk as a result of the flagged
account. A third fraudulent
purchase for an xBox game system for several hundred dollars was made using a
different card shortly thereafter at a location in Madison Heights. Troy plain-clothes officers proceeded
to the Target store, reviewed the video of the fraudulent transaction, and
recognized the suspect attempting the transaction as a 35-year-old male from
Warren from a previous arrest for breaking into vehicles. They proceeded to the gas station/convenience
store, reviewed the video, and observed the same suspect placing a credit
card into a gas pump, but leaving without pumping gas. Troy officers along with Warren
officers proceeded to the suspect’s residence and took him into custody. $19,768 of the $20,000 stolen from
the victim was recovered from the suspect’s residence, as was an additional
$1000.00 in cash. Evidence was
obtained indicating the suspect made fraudulent withdrawals from the victim’s
daughter’s bank account at an ATM in Troy. (Victim had daughter’s ATM card in her purse.) Evidence was also obtained indicating
the suspect sold the Xbox system at a location in Detroit and used the
proceeds to purchase drugs. The
contents of the victim’s purse were found discarded in a dumpster in Detroit;
items recovered included several of her credit cards, her passport, her
social security card, and her daughter’s ATM card. While searching the dumpster, officers located another bag
containing a purse and driver’s license in the name of a 43 year old female
from Clinton Twp. When she was
contacted, she advised her purse was stolen from her car on 10/12 in Sterling
Heights. Her debit card had been
used to make $600-$700 worth of fraudulent purchases. Warren PD retained custody of the
suspect for the two fraudulent credit card transactions that occurred in
their city, with additional charges pending in Troy for the Larceny from Auto
and the ATM card fraud, and possibly Madison Heights for the credit fraud
there. Investigation continues. Stonetree, 10/19,

______________________ Crime Prevention Tips
Home Invasion / B&E Always secure
your doors and windows. Ø
Garages and
door walls are targets for thieves. Ø
Always
ensure your garage door and pedestrian doors are secured. Ø
Do not leave
garage door remote controls in cars not parked in the garage. Ø
Use 1 ½’’
dowel rod in the track of all sliding glass windows and doors to help prevent
them from opening. Ø
It has been proven
time and time again that the proper use and application of physical security
will stop a would-be burglar. Ø
Burglary
alarms are only as reliable as the person setting them. If you have an alarm, make sure that
every resident or employee knows how to activate and deactivate it, as well
as the security code. Larceny Ø
Always keep
control of all your property. Ø
Your
belongings are not safe while you are playing sports or at work unless you
have them properly locked or are in possession of them. Ø
Thieves wait
for the right time and will take property quickly. Ø
Unfortunately
you cannot always trust co-workers or other business associates. Ø
Do not rely
on others to watch your belongings.
If they fail, you will be the victim, not them. Ø
Be cautious
of who you allow into your home. If you invite guests that you really do not
know into your home you are inviting trouble. Larcenies from Autos / Car Theft Things that can
be done to combat auto theft and larcenies from autos include: Ø
Installing a car alarm. Ø
Using
steering-wheel locking applications like the club etc. Ø
Applications
of a hidden kill switch to the ignition system. Ø
Park in a
well lit well traveled area if possible. Ø
Always
maintain security of vehicle keys. Ø
Do
not leave anything of value in your vehicle in plain view. Ø
Always lock
your vehicle doors. Ø
Never leave
a vehicle unattended while running. Ø
There is a
trend of things being stolen from vehicles in the parking lots of fitness
centers and fun centers. While going to these places, be extra careful to
remove all items of value and secure your vehicle. |
