Her father checked the area right after the incident with negative results.  The

complainant stated she heard similar noises the night before.  She stated she did not recognize the subject.

Cambridge Crossing Shopping Plaza, 2001 E. Maple, 8/24, 2300 hrs.

Officers stopped to investigate a suspicious occupied vehicle parked by itself in the center of the lot. It was facing a nearby Bally’s where male and female patrons were entering and exiting.  The male occupant tried to duck out of sight as the police car came into view.  The 21-year-old male from Walled Lake advised he was waiting for his girlfriend to get off of work at a nearby restaurant.  When asked to step from the car, officers noted his belt was unbuckled and his pants button was undone.  He was not exposed.   Further inquires revealed he had some sort of battery powered sexual device hooked up to his person.  An assortment of lubricants and tissue were located inside his vehicle.  His story about his girlfriend checked out.  He was warned and released.

Beech Lane N/O Maple, 8/24, 2021 hrs.

A 23-year-old male complainant from Troy claimed he was scheduled “to be picked up by and hang out with a 21-year-old male from Clinton Twp.”  He stated when the car pulled up, he leaned into the passenger side window and the front seat male passenger pulled him slightly inside and tried to pull his wallet out of his back pants pocket.   The complainant stated the driver started driving S/B with him hanging partially in and partially out the window.  Complainant stated he was able to free himself; nothing was taken and the car departed. There was reportedly a third male in the back seat of the car.  He claims there is no reason that he is aware of for the incident.  There was some concern over the veracity of the victim’s account.  The victim would not complete a written statement of the incident.

Comerica Bank ATM, 4999 Crooks, 8/27, 1938 hrs.

Officers responded to a complaint that a W/M, wearing cutoff jeans, a white shirt and cap was observed squatting at the ATM machine, wearing a tool belt, and possibly drilling on the front of the machine.  The caller stated he heard what sounded like drilling and contacted the bank’s security department.  They advised there were no scheduled repairs at that location.  When officers arrived, the subject was gone.  There was no apparent damage.  The subject drove off in a red truck that was backed into a parking space.  Security contacted Troy Dispatch later and advised the subjects may have been trying to install a “skimming device,” which is a device that can capture customers’ account information when the ATM is used.

Officer stopped a black Dodge Ram pickup after it was reported as being involved in a traffic altercation and the driver made threats that he had a weapon.  The 25-year-old male driver from Troy claimed “he and the other driver engaged in a dispute over who had the right of way upon exiting N/B I-75 at Rochester.”  He claimed the “other driver threatened him with a gun.” He stated he “followed the other driver into a shopping plaza lot and because he felt threatened by the other driver, decided to confront him by arming himself with a golf club. “ Apparently he exited his vehicle, approached and tapped on the other driver’s window to get his attention.  He stated he “drove away after this confrontation.”  He smelled of intoxicants, failed sobriety tests and was arrested.  He blew 0.11 on a breath test.  The other driver, a 23-year-old male from Rochester Hills gave a similar account of the altercation, however indicated the “25-year-old threatened to shoot him during the exchange.”  It appears he exited his vehicle at one point to confront the 25-year-old while both were stopped at a traffic signal.  He was released at the scene with no charges.

Crime Prevention Tips

Harassment and Stalking

If you are being threatened, stalked or harassed by someone, consider obtaining a Personal Protection Order.  For more information, click here.

If you have a Personal Protection Order against someone, do not contact him or her in violation of the terms of your own order, it may make the order unenforceable.

If someone violates a Personal Protection Order that you have, contact the Police immediately.  If the Officers arrive and the person is still there, they may be able to take immediate enforcement action.

If you are receiving harassing, threatening, or annoying telephone calls, you should make a police report.  After making a report, the SBC Annoyance Call Bureau will initiate an investigation.  They will require a case number, the dates and approximate times of the calls, and some contact information from you.  It is a good idea to begin keeping a log of these calls as soon as they begin.

Suspicious Incidents / people

If it appears that someone is up to no-good, they probably are.  Call the Police immediately.  We are trained to investigate suspicious circumstances and determine if criminal activity is afoot.

The best security system that you can have is a “Nosy Neighbor.”  Encourage your neighbors to be “Nosy,” especially if there is strange activity around your property.  Return the favor by keeping a watchful eye on their property and reporting it immediately.  This is the basis for the Neighborhood Watch program.

If someone or something seems “suspicious” to you or makes you feel uncomfortable, there is probably good reason for it.  Don’t get into the habit of second-guessing your intuition and instinct.

Sexual predators are usually progressive, starting out with public exposure and leading to more risky and dangerous behaviors. You can check the state of Michigan registered sex offenders list at www.mipsor.state.mi.us for offenders that live in your area.
