Crime Alert for period ending December 14,
2007 Altercations/Disorderly Conduct: Assaults: Business Lot, 1775 John R, 12/10, 1836 hrs. Officers responded to a report of a fight in the parking
lot. Upon arrival, a 38-year-old male
from Roseville claimed that when he came out of work an unknown male
confronted him about sending text messages to him. Complainant claimed he had no idea who the
suspect was or what the subject was talking about. He stated when “he tried to get into his
car, the subject pushed him several times, pulled his jacket over his head,
and began punching him.” He said the
male then got into his car and drove away.
The officer found a business card on the ground that the subject
apparently dropped during the scuffle.
The officer contacted the 37-year-old male from Orion Township who met
the officer at the station. He
explained the complainant is the ex-boyfriend of his current girlfriend and
has been stalking and harassing her.
He showed the officer a test message from the complainant that he
received recently harassing him, as well.
He stated he “drove to the complainant’s work place today to put him
on notice to stop the harassment, when the complainant became irate and began
pushing him in the chest and then punched him in the head.” He stated he “fought back in self
defense.” Both claim they will be
prosecuting the other. Officer responded to a report of an assault between two
residents at a group home. It was over
when officers responded. There were no
apparent injuries and no charges sought. Continental
Interiors, 1210 E. Maple, 12/13, 0830 hrs. Two
male employees, one a 23-year-old male from Rochester, the other a
28-year-old male from Warren, engaged in an argument with each accusing the
other of talking to the other “like a baby.”
The argument which occurred outside the building apparently became
physical. Neither had visible injuries;
however the 28-year-old requested EMS and was transported to the
hospital. Each claimed the other
initiated the assault; however a witness stated the 28-year-old admitted
initiating the physical contact. Uncertain on charges at this time. Assist

approach the pickup, smash the window, enter and drive off with the pickup. 900 block of John R, 12/4-12/10 ’98 Dodge Neon parked in apartment

and Entries: Crash Investigations: Square
Lake and Donaldson, 12/10, 1102 hrs. Troy
Police, Fire, and Alliance EMS responded to a report that a ’04 Lexus traveling
east on Square Lake suddenly veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole
along the south side. The pole was
broken off and came down, which pulled a second pole down, as well. Arriving officers found wires across the
vehicle and a single unresponsive female inside. They determined the wires were not
electrical/hot and the female was removed.
Extrication was not necessary. CPR was initiated and she was
transported to Troy Beaumont Hospital where she remains in critical condition. The 72-year-old female driver from Troy was
the lone occupant. She was seat belted
and two sets of airbags activated upon impact. There did not appear to be any serious
injuries sustained during the course of the crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor, nor
was weather. Investigators suspect a
medical condition as the cause; however the investigation is on-going. Square Lake was closed for about two hours
between Livernois and Rochester during the investigation. Rochester
and Stephenson, 12/10, 0130 hrs. A ’94
Honda Accord driven by a 19-year-old male from Troy crashed into a utility
pole.
The driver/lone occupant stated he “had five beers.” He failed sobriety tests and was
arrested. He was transported to the
hospital to be evaluated and then released by hospital personal into police
custody. He was conveyed to the Troy Lock-up where he blew 0.16 on a breath
test. Credit, Check, Identity Theft, and
other Fraud: Complainant
received a congratulatory letter in the mail for winning a lottery along with
a check she was supposed to deposit.
The check was to cover “international clearance fees” required to
process her cash winnings. She was
supposed to wire cash against that check to pay the fees and collect her
winnings. She recognized the scam with
no losses. Complainant
from a leasing company reported completing a lease agreement/transaction for a
’07 Mercedes-Benz. The agreement was
arranged by phone and fax. The vehicle
was delivered to an individual in Atlanta, Georgia. Two payments were received, and then
stopped. Apparently the lease
agreement contained no searchable personal identifiers such as a social
security number or date of birth for the person whose name is represented
thereon. Complainant
reported someone used her debit card account number to make a fraudulent
purchase at a store in Troy. 7-11,
2910 John R, 10/17, 1456 hrs. Complainant
reported a female subject presented four $500.00 Chase Bank traveler’s checks
to one of his clerks on 10/17. She
purchased 6 money orders in varying denominations for the $2000.00
total. Apparently the clerk was not
aware of policy prohibiting such transactions/exchanges. On 11/1/07 the same female tried to
complete a similar transaction and was denied. Eventually the complainant received word
that the original checks were counterfeit.
The suspect is a 24-year-old female from Clawson who reportedly has
relocated to Florida. Complainant
reported someone added an unauthorized user to his credit card account after
which $5733.77 in fraudulent purchases occurred. Domestics/Family Troubles: Troy Officers responded to three
incidents involving family troubles/domestic disputes where the investigation
revealed no assaults or other crimes occurred, therefore no formal
enforcement action was taken. Drugs/Narcotics: Drunk/Intoxicated
Driving Incidents of Interest: Embezzlements Business,
2000 block of Crooks, 5/25/05-12/10/07 Complainant
reported when he hired a new bookkeeper after the former bookkeeper left an
audit was performed. The audit
indicated the former 38-year-old female bookkeeper from Oxford was issuing
checks payable to herself rather than paying the accounts. Several thousand dollars are involved. She admitted the thefts. It appears complainant may be trying to
work out a payback plan with her and unknown on criminal charges at this
point. Home Invasions: Dorchester,
12/9-12/11 Laptop
computer and two bottles of Champagne stolen from apartment with no evidence
of forced entry; however deadbolt was not activated during the theft. Milverton,

and CD player stolen from a bedroom. Larcenies: Woodside

his company is contracted for snow removal and left the loader on site. Newgate,
7/4-12/5 Complainant
stated he purchased and installed a stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher in
his rental home. After the tenants
were evicted and moved out, he inspected the house. He discovered the stove and refrigerator
was missing, and there was an unsuccessful attempt made to remove/steal the
dishwasher. There was no sign of
forced entry. Northfield

and may have walked away for a moment.
When she went to leave, she realized her purse was gone. Wal-Mart
Lot, 2001 W. Maple, 12/11, 1000 hrs. Complainant
stated she left her purse in her shopping cart and drove off, forgetting
it. When she returned, the cart was
still there however her purse was gone. Carnegie
Institute, 550 Stephenson, 12/11-12/12 Complainant

placed her purse in her bag along with her belongings. When she got back to class she realized she
did not have the purse. When she
returned to the restroom the purse was missing. Parking

12/12, 1100-1900 hrs. Ford Fusion parked in lot had three
tires slashed. A vehicle, possibly a
Ford Taurus, was observed pulling up next to the complainant’s parked
car. Two occupants exited and were
observed bending down near the tires/wheels on complainant’s vehicle. Minors
and Alcohol: Neighbor
Troubles: Peace Officer/Civil: Officers
responded to a report from a cab driver that he picked up a fare in Berkley
and dropped the person in Troy; however when he entered the subject’s credit
card for the $21.00 fee, the card was declined. Officers entered the office building and
located the 39-year-old male from Southfield.
He was intoxicated. He
explained he contacted a friend who was on the way to pay the cab fee for
him. Officers discovered two
outstanding warrants for the subject and arrested him. He was on probation for another charge and
apparently one of the conditions was that he was not to consume alcohol. He blew 0.18 on a PBT. The Probation Office was notified. His friend did show up and paid the cab
fare. Phone Calls/Harassment/Threats: One
harassment report taken. Retail Fraud: Kohl’s, 500 John R, 12/11, 1600 hrs. Plain clothes officers observed a
suspicious male walking through the parking lot at Sear’s at Oakland
Mall. He approached the Optical
Department, pulled a hoodie up on his head and began looking inside the store
as well as around the parking lot areas.
He eventually returned to the lot and entered a Plymouth Laser that
was driven by a second male. The Laser
left the mall lot and entered the Kohl’s lot across the street on John
R. The same male entered the store
carrying a white plastic shopping bag.
He was next seen at the service desk trying to refund four pair of
pants for cash without a receipt. The
refund was denied. He proceeded to the
shoe department where he put on a new pair of shoes and placed his old shoes
inside the shoe box. He eventually
placed the box on a shelf and left the store with out paying for the new
shoes he was wearing. As he arrived
back at the car, Troy Officers approached and arrested the 32-year-old male
from Pontiac. The driver, a
33-year-old male from Pontiac was arrested for outstanding felony warrants
from other jurisdictions, as well as driving on a suspended license. Numerous pieces of narcotics paraphernalia
consistent with heroin use were recovered and confiscated from inside the car
including syringes, spoons, a tourniquet and a plastic case with suspected
heroin residue. Neiman Marcus, 2705 W. Big Beaver,
12/13, 2017 hrs. LPO reported a subject entered the
store and grabbed a handful of Loro scarves, placed them under his jacket,
and left without paying. He was last
seen entering the passenger seat of a black Mercedes, which immediately drove
off. Stolen: Five scarves with a total value of
$1225.00. The license plate on the
vehicle registers to a 39-year-old female from Highland Park. Suspect:
B/M, 40-years-old, 6’-0,” 220 lbs., glasses, wearing a suit and tie and
a long dress coat. Speedway, 2980 John R, 12/13, 1730
hrs. Complainant reported a W/M,
approximately 50-years-old, 5’-6,” 150 lbs., gray hair, thin build entered
the store, grabbed several packages of cigars from the tobacco aisle,
concealed them in his coat, and then left without paying. He was last seen entering a mini-van. The plate registers to a 50-year-old male
from Holland, MI and is listed on a ’92 Ford mini-van. Total stolen: approximately $54.00. Second incident
involving the same suspect over last several weeks. Robberies: Suspicious Incidents: Gas Station Lot, Livernois and Long
Lake, 12/9, 0330 hrs. A 26-year-old male complainant from
Rochester stated that his “friend” left him at the gas station and she still
had his wallet inside her vehicle. He
stated there was $500.00 in his wallet.
He apparently provided several conflicting statements to officers on
the scene regarding his actions prior to the incident, including where he met
his friend. He eventually indicated he
met the female on an Internet site called the “Red Hot Date Line.” He stated
he “drank and smoked marijuana earlier and planned on hanging out with her and
smoking marijuana.” Officers were able
to make contact with the 25-year-old female from Detroit. She explained the complainant was acting
strangely, so she became scared and dropped him off at the gas station. She told officers he “did not leave his
wallet in her car.” When the
complainant was advised of the female’s version of events, he stated he “no
longer wanted to make a police report.”
A taxi was contacted on his behalf. Traffic

1200-1630 hrs. Complainant came to the station to
report he parked his ’07 Chevy Impala in the parking structure. When he came out he discovered a piece of
concrete fell from the ceiling and hit the hood of his car causing major
damage. Orpington, 12/10, 2030 hrs. 22-year-old female complainant came
to the station to report that she responded to a knock at her door and found
an unknown W/M, approximately 35-years-old standing on the porch asking for
her boyfriend. She told the subject he
wasn’t home, and the subject left.
Shortly thereafter, she saw the same subject parked in a rusty, light
blue Ford Tempo in front of her home.
She approached, asked the subject for his name and why he was
there. She stated he sped off. She contacted her boyfriend and advised
him. He stated he was on his way home. She saw the subject parked outside again
and approached the car, telling him to leave or she was going to call
police. He apparently began to pull
away and according to complainant veered toward her and went partially onto
the grass where she was standing. She
stated the “rear wheel well of the vehicle hit her leg” as the car sped
off. The 30-year-old male boyfriend
from Troy told the officer taking the report that he suspects the subject may
have been from a collection agency regarding an outstanding debt he owes. Case Updates: Church
Burglar Arrested on Three Count Warrant Hilary
Anne Harbuz, 41-years-old from Warren, was arrested Friday by Troy
investigators on a felony warrant charging her with three breaking and
entering incidents at St. Joseph Chaldean Church located at 2442 E. Big
Beaver in Troy. A church representative/complainant
reported noticing the offering envelopes coming up short on the weekend of
10/20/07 when compared to the normal average and initiated an
investigation. An on-site video system
captured the suspect inside the church with a flashlight on three separate
occasions. On 10/29/07, at
approximately 0434 hrs. the suspect is seen near the prayer candles where she
appears to reach into the offering box.
She then proceeds to an office used to count cash offerings and
envelopes and searches through drawers and cabinets located therein. On 11/5/07 at approximately 0426 hrs. she
is again observed inside the church near the prayer candle area. Again, it
appears she reaches into the offering box.
She walks away from that area holding something in her hand and
appears to put something in one of her coat pockets. She then walks up to the “Poor Box” and
walks away. Apparently that box was
locked. On 11/19/07 at 0430 hrs. she
is again seen inside the church in front of the prayer candle area. She has a flashlight in one hand and some
sort of shiny object in the other. On
all three dates she is wearing the same coat.
Two different sets of exterior doors to the church were found to have
pry marks and appears to have been forced open to gain entry. The complainant recognized the suspect as a
volunteer cleaning person. She is not
a member of the church but was introduced by regular paid cleaning staff as
someone that likes to help churches with cleaning and maintenance. She was not issued a key to the
church. She did not respond to a Troy
investigator’s effort to interview her.
The case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office and a
three count breaking and entry warrant was authorized. Troy investigators proceeded to the
suspect’s residence in Warren and arrested her without incident on
12/7/07. She was arraigned on 12/8/07
before Magistrate Clement Waldman where she stood mute, requested a court
appointed attorney and was given personal bond. Her exam is scheduled before Judge Dennis
Drury in Troy’s 52-4 District Court on 12/20/07 at 0830 hrs. During the investigation, detectives
received information indicating that the suspect may have been acting as a
“volunteer cleaning person” at other area churches in addition to St.
Joseph’s, however were not able to identify specific locations. Churches that might recognize the suspect
and have experienced similar incidents may contact Troy Detective David
Nordstrom for assistance at 248-524-3477. Arrest Summary: In addition to those outlined above,
the following arrests were also made during the period: Drunk Driving: 8 Possession of Marijuana: 2 Possession of Narcotics
Paraphernalia: 1 Retail Fraud: 11 Drove While License Suspended: 10 Domestic Assault: 1 Warrants: 4 |
