Altercations/Disorderly Conduct:

Assaults:

Dorre, 3/3, 0000-0400 hrs.

Complainant came to the station to report that while riding in a car with a 24-year-old male from Warren, a 20-year-old male from Ferndale and a 21-year-old female from Ferndale; the 24-year-old struck the female, to which complainant took offense and in retaliation struck the 24-year-old.  When they arrived at a residence on Dorre and he exited the car the two males assaulted him.  He stated he passed out and later woke up in the street.  Apparently a neighbor assisted him into the residence.   He took himself to the hospital in the morning for treatment of his injuries.

Skateworld, 2825 E. Maple, 3/2, 2235 hrs.

Officers responded to a report of a fight in progress.  Upon arrival a security officer pointed out a large group of older teens who arrived as Skateworld was closing and reportedly began to harass and intimidate a small group of 12 to 13-year-old males who were standing out in front of the building.  A 17-year-old male from Sterling Heights was identified as an instigator among the larger group.  When interviewed by officers he claimed he was jumped and punched by a male subject for no reason.  He stated the suspect had already departed in a Dodge Durango driven by a female.  A responding officer located and stopped the Durango in the vicinity.  The 17-year-old male passenger from Sterling Heights explained he was trying to defend the younger kids from the older teens.  It appears his 15-year-old brother was among the group of younger kids.  He claimed when he defended the younger group the aggression of the larger group turned towards him.  He stated he was outnumbered and believed he needed to defend himself so struck the 1- year-old in the face and fled to his mother’s waiting car.  Officers reported receiving conflicting stories from both groups as to what occurred however other witnesses indicated there was talk the older group showed up to confront the younger group and that the older brother or brothers of the younger kids showed up to defend their siblings from the older group.  All advised on procedures should they wish to prosecute and released at the scene.

Athens High School, 4333 John R, 3/7, 0725 hrs.

A 16-year-old female from Troy came to the station with her mother to report words were exchanged between her and a 17-year-old female from Troy that morning on the bus, during which the 17-year-old threatened to beat her up when they got to school.  She stated that while sitting in the cafeteria with her friends the suspect approached her table with two of her friends and proceeded to punch her in the face three times.  No apparent injuries.

Crime Prevention Tips

Fraud Prevention:

Ø      Remember that nothing that is worth anything is free.

Ø      If someone that you do not know offers to do you a favor, they probably have an ulterior motive.

Ø      Never give any personal information out to an unknown source over the phone or Internet.

(If someone asks for personal information, ask to speak to the supervisor and inform him or her you will be calling the Police to make a fraud report.)

No reputable business will call you or email you for this information!!!

Ø      If you receive a phone call or email telling you that you have won something that you did not apply for, it is more than likely a fraud.

Ø      No legitimate organization will ask for any money or a Credit Card number in order to claim a prize

Ø      Protect yourself against identity theft by shredding all documents and safe guarding your account numbers, social security numbers and credit card numbers.

Ø      Always maintain your credit cards and secure the credit card numbers.

Ø      If you suspect that you have been the victim of credit fraud, call your credit card company and have them run a query of your charges.

Ø      Never give your bank account numbers over the phone. Especially if unsolicited!

Identity theft continues to be the fastest growing crime in the world, and the city of Troy is no exception. We continually get reports of identity theft and fraud on a regular basis.

While it may not be totally avoidable, detecting the early signs of identity theft is one of the best ways to avoid extensive losses and damage to your credit history.

If your wallet/purse etc. gets stolen, cancel all stolen credit and ATM cards immediately.

Checking your credit history regularly is a great way to keep appraised on the status of your credit.

Here are three sources for checking your credit history:

Experian

Alcohol / Drugs

Be responsible!  If you drink - DO NOT DRIVE!

If you serve alcohol make sure that your guests make it home safely.

Do not serve alcohol to under-aged children

We all must share the roads - don’t risk the lives of others or yourself.  It is not a good idea to mix alcohol with other activities like boating or swimming.  If you drink do it in moderation and don’t drive or put yourself and others at risk.

·        DO NOT use illegal drugs

·        DO NOT drive and endanger the lives of everyone if you have consumed alcohol or drugs.

·        If you are under 21 years of age, IT IS ILLEGAL to consume or possess alcohol.

If you have any information on illegal drug activity call our tip line at 248-524-0777.

Assaults

Don’t let the traffic, gas prices, cold weather and unhappy people

cause you to lose your temper.  If someone says or does something to you to make you angry, stop and allow yourself to calm down before taking any action.  All too often, people react to a driver cutting them off or a rude neighbor by sinking to their level and getting involved in a physical confrontation.  A better course of action is to allow the other driver/person some space to work out their issues sans you!  If you feel antagonized and that the situation is escalating call the police and let us help to settle the matter in a calm, legal and non-violent way.
