Golfview, 11/14-11/15, 1900-1500 hrs.

’04 Chrysler Town and Country van had driver’s side door lock punched and the ignition removed in an apparent unsuccessful attempt to steal it.

 

Alfred, 11/15-11/16, 2100-0800 hrs.

’91 Olds Cutlass had a vent window broken out and the steering column attacked in an unsuccessful attempt to steal it.  Address is in the same general area as the incident reported below.

 

Edith  and Burdic, 11/16, 0001 hrs.

Officers located a ’90 Buick LeSabre parked left wheel to curb with a vent window broken out and the steering column broken out.  The listed owner was contacted and advised the car was supposed to be at his brother-in-law’s home on Gulliver Street.  Gulliver is in the same area.  The victim contacted his relative who confirmed the car was missing from the drive where he had parked it.

 

Oakland Mall Lot, 11/16, 0730-2300 hrs.

’88 Chevy Caprice reported stolen from N/W lot.

 

Pipe Systems, 611 E. Elmwood, 11/19-11/20, 1530-0630 hrs.

’02 Chevy Silvarado pickup and 21 scaffolding panels stolen from rear lot.  Fence cut to gain access to storage lot where vehicle and items were stored.

 

Cedar Crest, 11/19-11/20, 0830-0700 hrs.

’93 Plymouth Voyager stolen from drive.    Troy PD received word later from Fraser PD that they had stopped the vehicle in question and arrested the three subjects inside who appear to be two 18-year-old males and a 26-year-old female.

 

Breaking and Entries:

 

Devon laser Designs, 640 Minnesota, 11/16-1/18, 2300-0600 hrs.

North door locks found damaged in an apparent unsuccessful attempt to gain entry into the business.

 

Crash Investigations:

 

Coolidge and Somerset, 11/16, 1834 hrs.

As officers pulled up to a reported property damage crash, the driver of the at-fault vehicle quickly entered his car and drove off.  An officer caught up and stopped him.  He claimed he gave the other driver $100.00 in cash and she told him it was ok to leave.  He had no driver’s license, as he stated he never applied for one.  Computer queries on the name he provided could not locate a record for him.  He identified himself as a 24-year-old male and stated he was living in Birmingham.  He was arrested for driving without a license and hit and run.  The 31-year-old female driving the car he struck told officers that after the crash he started begging her not to call police, pushed $152.00 into her hand, and then fled the scene.  She turned the money over to officers who returned it to the subject.  Immigration contacted and could not locate a record on the subject.

 

Somerset and Axtell, 11/20, 1010 hrs.

Officers responded to a report that a Ford Explorer left the roadway and struck a tree.  Witnesses stated there was no driver at the scene.  While officers were on scene, two males, a 49-year-old and 32-year-old, both from Troy walked up.  The 49-year-old was the registered owner of the vehicle.  The 32-year-old explained they worked together and he borrowed the vehicle to drive home.  He stated while doing so he heard a rattling noise from the vehicle, and then found himself unable to control it.  The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.  He walked to the business which was nearby and came back with the registered owner.  The 32-year-old was found to have a suspended driver’s license for which he was arrested.  The 49-year-old had an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction for which he was arrested.  Officers located a stun gun and black jack inside the car which belonged to the 49-year-old.  A pill bottle containing a mix of several pills was also found in the car.  Investigation revealed they belonged to the 49-year-old and were Vicodin, Motrin 600, Ambien, and Valium.  He stated he had Rx’s for everything but the Valium, which he purchased from a fellow employee at work to assist him sleep.  He stated the weapons were his, as he had rentals in a “high crime area.”  He stated he didn’t know the weapons were illegal.  The 32-year-old also was found in possession of a similar array of pills in his pocket.  He claimed he grabbed a handful of pills from his mother’s medicine cabinet when he went home for lunch because he had an upset stomach.  Additional charges pending regarding the Rx medications and weapons.

 

Credit, Check, Identity Theft, and other Fraud:

 

Whole Foods Market, 2880 W. Maple, 11/14

While checking receipts, the store accountant discovered what turned out to be two counterfeit $100.00 traveler’s checks.  Follow-up revealed the person that presented them provided identification in the name of a 42-year-old female from Dearborn.

 

Local insurance company representatives came to the station to initiate a complainant against a 47-year-old male former employee from Pinckney after it was discovered he was having commissions on sales sent directly to him rather than the company as prescribed.

 

Macy’s, 2750 W. Big Beaver, 11/17, 1635 hrs.

A 21-year-old female from Detroit was arrested after she tried to pass a $500.00 traveler’s check that turned out to be counterfeit.  A second female passed what turned out to be another counterfeit $500.00 travelers’ check.  The original suspect denied knowing that subject despite being observed conversing with her prior to her apprehension.

 

Complainant reported applying and being hired on line by a “shipping company.”  He was to serve as a middle person for packages being shipped by the company.  Apparently he would receive them, and then send them on to destinations as directed.  Unknown as to how he was to be compensated, however two packages arrived after which he was never contacted by the company as to where to send them.  Upon inspecting them, they contained new Apple iPhones that appeared to have been purchased directly from the online Apple Store.  Although complainant has suffered no losses yet, he did provide the “employer” with all of his personal information.

Complainant reported discovering counterfeit checks had been created using her personal information and account numbers.  Several were fraudulently cashed.

Complainant reported discovering several fraudulent accounts on line using his personal information.

 

Newly hired store manager reported receiving a call from a male who claimed he was an attorney from “Corporate Headquarters.”  He explained they just settled a law suit involving a complaint against her store and directed her to wire a $200.00 cash settlement to the “plaintiff’s attorney” in St. Louis.  Complainant did as instructed.  When she followed up with corporate later, she discovered no one from that office contacted her and it was a scam.

 

Speedway Gas Station, 880 E. Maple, 11/5, 1600 hrs.

Business representative came to the station to report a subject who provided a Michigan ID in the name of a 24-year-old female from Troy came in and purchased money orders with three $500.00 American Express traveler’s checks.  The checks turned out to be counterfeit.

 

Complainant reported his personal information was used to open fraudulent credit accounts on line.

 

Complainant reported discovering an unauthorized $9495.00 withdrawal made from his bank account.

 

In addition to the above, one identity theft report was taken.

 

Domestics/Family Troubles:

 

Troy Officers responded to five incidents involving family troubles/domestic disputes where investigation revealed no assaults or other crimes occurred, therefore no formal enforcement action was taken.

 

Complainant reported her daughter came to her place of business and stole her purse.  She stated she saw her daughter running out of the business with her purse, chased her daughter down and retrieved it from her.

One PPO violation was reported and one violation of probation no contact restriction was made.

Drunk/Intoxicated Driving Incidents of Interest:

 

Robinwood near Rochester Ct., 11/16, 0008 hrs.

Officer stopped a ’92 Pontiac Bonneville after it nearly struck a parked car.  The 18-year-old male driver from Troy explained he dropped his cell phone which resulted in the near collision.  The officer detected an odor of intoxicants coming from his breath.  The driver admitted drinking, as did his 18-year-old male passenger, also from Troy.  The driver failed sobriety tests and was arrested.  He blew 0.10 on a breath test.  The passenger blew 0.06 on a PBT (Preliminary Breath Test) and was cited for MIP and released at the scene.

 

S/B I-75 ramp to Rochester Road, 11/18, 0130 hrs.

Officers responded to the area when witnesses reported a red ’01 Chevy Blazer left the roadway from the ramp, flipped several times, and then came to rest against a tree.  Witnesses reported finding no driver inside.  Shortly thereafter, Troy Dispatch received a call from a 40-year-old female from Rochester Hills who was the registered owner of the vehicle.  She stated she was calling from the nearby Residence Inn.  Troy officers responded to the Inn and located her exiting a room.  She smelled strongly of intoxicants.  A Madison Heights K-9 Unit that was requested at the scene of the crash tracked to the location at the hotel where officers located the female.  She admitted drinking two beers.  She stated she contacted her brother after the crash to meet her at the Red Roof Inn and he advised her to get a room and contact her insurance company.  Her speech was slurred.  She failed sobriety tests and blew 0.08 on a PBT. She was arrested.  Four Valium pills were located inside her purse that she claimed were her ex-husband’s.  A blood test was requested given the possibility of her also being under the influence of Rx medications.  Toxicology is pending.

Home Invasions:

 

Hylane, 11/16, 2120 hrs.

Complainant reported waking from a nap when he heard a noise in his bathroom.  When he went to investigate he observed a male, about 5’-9,” wearing dark clothes that turned and quickly exited through the bathroom window.  Investigation revealed the screen had been cut. Nothing missing, however the medicine cabinet was found open.

 

Bristol, 11/16, 1424 hrs.

Complainant reported hearing someone enter her house while she was in the basement.  She stated it sounded like the person walked through the first floor then to the second floor and back down.  She stated she yelled up, thinking it was her son.  She then heard the garage entrance door close.  Upon checking the garage, she found the garage door open.  She stated it had been shut.  Nothing disturbed/missing from inside the house.

 

Alameda, 11/16-11/17, 1900-0142 hrs.

Complainant arrived home and discovered a rear window and door wall open.  The house was ransacked.  Jewelry, a laptop, purse, several bags of new clothing purchases and miscellaneous paperwork stolen.  Entry gained by pushing in a screen on the rear window that was apparently left unlocked.

 

Larcenies:

 

Nampa, 11/10, 1330-1500 hrs.

Complainant reported a Seiko watch was stolen from a dresser drawer while they were out; no sign of forced entry.  Cleaning person possibly on site while they were out.

 

Kirts, 11/16-11/17

Five apartment basement storage lockers found broken into.  The complainant stated nothing was missing from his; one of the other owners reported some laundry detergent missing.  Still waiting repose from the other three victims as they were not available at the time of the report.

 

Boulan Middle School, 3570 Northfield Parkway, 11/16, 1416 hrs.

Officers responded on a report that two male subjects had just stolen two bikes from the rack.  Witnesses recognized the two as 14-year-old males from Troy that attended the school last year.  A responding officer observed the suspects on one of the stolen bikes, with one riding and the other on the handlebars, west on Wattles east of Crooks and stopped them.  Both were arrested.  The subject on the handlebars directed officers to the other bike that was stolen.  It was recovered on Old Creek.  Juvenile petitions were filed against them and one was released to a grandparent while the other was released to an uncle.

 

Ranieri, 11/3-11/4, 1600-1000 hrs.

Complainant stated she and her husband hosted a party with approximately 40 guests after which she discovered her and her husband’s wedding rings, as well as other items of jewelry missing from a jewelry box located in their bedroom.

 

Cadmus, 11/16, 1500-1520 hrs.

Ohio State University flag hanging down in front of garage door stolen.

 

Sally’s Beauty Supply, 1957 E. Maple, 11/17, 0905 hrs.

Complainant reported hearing the entry doorbell sound while she was in the back room.  As she proceeded to the front of the store, she observed a female subject trying to pry open the cash drawer with a screwdriver.  When she yelled at the suspect, the suspect fled out of the store; nothing stolen.  A witness observed her jump a fence and run in the general direction of the Subway Store which is located in the same area.  Suspect:  W/F, 18-19 years, 5’-5,” slim, brown hair, gray sweater and blue jeans.

 

Subway, 1937 E. Maple, 11/17, 0905 hrs.

Complainant reported hearing a noise from the front of the store while she was in back.  As she returned to investigate, she saw a female subject reaching over the counter and removing money from the cash register.  When she yelled at the suspect, the suspect fled out of the store with a small amount of currency from the register.  The subject matches the description of the suspect in the incident above.

 

Square Lake and Crooks, 11/16, 1713 hrs.

Officer stopped a red Dodge pickup after discovering the plate was stolen.  Officers located three cases of beer inside the bed of the truck.  Investigation revealed the beer had just been stolen at CVS at South Boulevard and Crooks.  Follow up at the store revealed two of the passengers were observed by store employees stealing the beer.  They are a 37-year-old male from Independence Twp., and a 38-year-old male from White Lake.  They were arrested.  The driver, a 48-year-old male from Davisburg was arrested for possession of the stolen license plate.  The fourth passenger, a 39-year-old female from White Lake had a warrant from another jurisdiction for which she was arrested.  A crack pipe was located under the driver’s seat.  Numerous used syringes were located throughout the passenger compartment.  The truck’s real license plate was located hidden under a floor mat.

 

McIntosh, 11/9-11/13

Complainant stated her company left several masonry tools in the rear of a customer’s home.  Customer was supposed to secure in garage until they returned.  Customer reported coming home and finding the tools missing.

 

Pepco, 1217 Coolidge, 11/17, 0700-1500 hrs.

Complainant reported her wallet was stolen from her purse which was left hanging in an employee break room.  Her credit card was used to make a fraudulent purchase at a store in Royal Oak.

 

MAC Cosmetics, 2801 W. Big Beaver, 11/19, 1345 hrs.

Complainant stated she set her wallet down on her diaper bag after paying and began talking with one of the associates.  When she went to leave, she discovered the wallet gone.  Officers located a witness who advised a B/F, 45-50 years-old, 5’-9,” wearing a cream knit sweater and black hat who was inside the store took the complainant’s wallet.  Complainant was contacted by her bank regarding an unknown person trying to access her account at a Dearborn branch.

 

Wal-Mart Lot, 2001 W. Maple, 11/17, 1830 hrs.

A 60-year-old female complainant from Bloomfield Twp. reported that while walking through the lot a subject described only as a female bumped into her.  She didn’t think too much of it until she returned home where she discovered her wallet missing from her handbag.  When she contacted her bank, she learned her credit cards were used to make fraudulent purchases at two locations in Detroit.

 

Somerset North, 2800 W. Big Beaver, 11/20, 1840 hrs.

Complainant stated she left her purse in her stroller while having her child’s photo taken with Santa.  When she returned, the purse was gone.   It was later located discarded in a second floor restroom minus her credit cards and a small amount of cash.

 

Gordon Foods, 2822 E. Maple, 11/20, 1600 hrs.

Employee reported leaving her purse under the counter near customer service only to find it had been stolen.  Her purse was found discarded on the street near Wattles and Rochester minus her cell phone.

 

Larcenies from Autos:

 

Elder Ford parking lot; 777 John R, 11/14, 0910-1230 hrs.

Wallet stolen from unlocked ’07 Pontiac G6 parked in lot.

 

Alexander, 11/18, 1830-2230 hrs.

’06 Pontiac Vibe parked in front of residence entered and two lap tops and a printer stolen.  Complainant stated the car was locked, however there were no signs of forced entry. 

 

Suburban Cadillac-Buick, 1810 Maplelawn, 11/17-11/19, 1530-0915 hrs.

Wheels/tires stolen from 12 different Cadillac Escalades in lot. Access gained by cutting a hole in the fence.

Pasadena, 11/20, 0130-0800 hrs.

Cadillac STS parked on street had 4 wheels stolen; second incident at same location this month.  Car left on landscape bricks.

 

Kenyon, 11/19-11/20, 1800-0700 hrs.

Unlocked car parked on street entered and rummaged; nothing missing.

 

Wacon, 11/20, 0300 hrs.

’97 Olds Cutlass parked in street had vent window smashed out and stereo system stolen. 

 

Malicious Destruction of Property:

 

Pond Ridge, 11/20, 2040 hrs.

Complainant heard a bang in front of his townhouse.  He went out to discover his front window broken and three youths running away.  Responding officers found and questioned the 14, 15, and 16-year-old males who denied involvement.  They were returned home to their respective parents.

 

Minors and Alcohol:

 

Maggiannos, 2095 W. Big Beaver, 11/17, 1829 hrs.

Manager reported one of his servers pointed out a group of young people inside the restaurant wherein a female from the group was observed pouring a liquid from a water bottle she removed from her purse into her companions’ glasses.  She appeared to be attempting to keep the water bottle below table level and out of view.  She eventually returned it to her purse.  A server brought one of the glasses to the manager and he indicated it smelled obviously of spiced rum.    The manager called the female away from the table so he could question her.  As they spoke, her companions left the restaurant without her.  She admitted bringing the alcohol and claimed she was 20-years-old.  Officers spoke with her and discovered she was 17 from Huntington Woods.  She admitted consuming two drinks, however blew 0.10 on a PBT.  She was cited for MIP and released to her parents who were called to the restaurant to pick her up.

Retail Fraud:

 

Neiman Marcus, 2705 W. Big Beaver, 11/17, 1543 hrs.

LPO’s reported two females walked directly up to a Gucci display, where each removed a purse, and then exited without paying.  Total value:  $2625.00.  Suspect #1:  B/F, approximately 35-years, 5’-7,” 180, long black hair, wearing a black coat, blue shirt, blue jeans, glasses.  #2:  B/F, approximately 35-years, 5’-7,” very heavy build, long black hair, wearing a dark gray jacket, dark gray pants, light gray shirt, black hat, and glasses.

 

Whole Food Co., 2880 W. Maple, 11/17, 1405 hrs.

Manger reported being alerted by customers who observed a female subject conceal several bottles of vitamin supplements inside her purse.  The subject left without paying and the manager confronted her outside.  The female admitted the theft and agreed to come back inside and pay.  While escorting her back inside, the subject pushed the manager and fled to a gray ’07 Buick Rendezvous parked in the lot.  The suspect is believed to be a 50-year-old female from Rochester Hills to whom the vehicle registers.  Total stolen estimated between $100.00-$250.00.

 

Borders. 460 W. 14 Mile, 11/14, 1610 hrs.

Store representative reported a male subject entered the store and selected multiple CD’s and DVD’s from different areas of the store.  He left them in one area of the store and then made a cell phone call at which point two females entered together.  While one looked out, the other placed the items in a bag she was carrying.  The male subject then picked up a book and stationed himself near the exit.  As the female w/the concealed merchandise exited, the alarms went off.  The male advised store associates who responded that he must have gotten too close to the alarm w/the book he was holding, and represented he had set the alarm off.  Shortly thereafter, he and the other female left together.  Upon checking, approximately 51 CD’s and DVD’s were discovered taken w/an approximate value of $1111.49. Suspects descriptions limited but as follows:  B/M, 6’-3,” short black hair; B/F, 5’-4,” thin, long curly hair; B/F, 5’-4,” thin, straight medium length hair.

 

Donna Saks, 462 W. 14 Mile, 11/19, 1945 hrs.

Manager reported three males entered the store and then left after browsing.  Shortly thereafter, one of the subjects returned by himself and tried on a $1200.00 leather Muhammad Ali embroidered jacket.  He proceeded to push the complainant into a rack of coats and fled wearing the jacket.  Suspect:  B/M, 22-years, 6’-0,” thin, long sleeve white shirt, light blue jeans.

Troy Officers responded to one incident involving an individual experiencing emotional/psychological difficulties and assisted with transport to the hospital for evaluation/commitment.

Miscellaneous Information:

 

Wal-Mart Lot, 2001 E. Maple, 1/16, 1812 hrs.

LPO responded to the lot on a report that 3 children were left unattended in a black Infiniti with an Arizona plate.  A PA system announcement was made directing the driver to come to the service desk.  The LPO located the car in question.  As he approached, a female ran up to it and told him she was the mother of the children inside.  She stated she left her 8-year -old son in charge of the younger ones while she was inside the store.  She loaded her merchandise in the trunk and begged the LPO not to call police.  She then got into the car and backed out with him standing behind her. The car bumped him as he jumped out of the way.  She sped out of the lot with her headlights off.  Officers spoke to a witness that stated the children were crying for their mother, so she reported the situation to store personnel.  The LPO was not hurt.  The driver apparently paid for her purchases with a check in the name of a 27-year-old female from Akron, Ohio.  The plate is registered to a male from Arizona.

November 24:  36th Annual Elf Shelf Craft Show, Troy High School, 4777 Northfield Parkway, 9 am-4 pm. Presented by the Troy Women’s Association. Small admission, no strollers.

 

November 27: Mistletoe ‘n’ Moonlight at the Cattail Cove Nature Shop, Nature Center, 5-9 pm. Special holiday outing that includes unique gifts, home décor, free gift wrap, refreshments and fun seasonal ideas. Ages 15 and up.

 

November 29: Graham Cracker Houses, Library, 7 pm. Join in and decorate a graham cracker house with candies and frosting! Register. Ages 5+.
