Crime Alert for period ending November 30,
2007 Altercations/Disorderly Conduct: Assaults: A 25-year-old female
complainant alleged she was pushed/physically stopped by a 30-year-old female
employee at the entrance of a business when she tried to make a delivery,
apparently after posted delivery times. Assist Other Department/Law Enforcement: Auto/Vehicle Thefts: Shopping Plaza, Coolidge and Maple, 11/21, 1703 hrs. Officers responded to a report that a female
complainant confronted a male subject inside her ’99 Chrysler Cirrus in the parking lot after finishing
her shopping. She stated he “had a bag
with what appeared to be tools inside.”
As she opened the door, he apologized and stated he “must have entered
the wrong car,” collected his bag, and walked away. She stated he “appeared to be looking
inside other cars as he walked through the lot after leaving hers.” Plain clothes officers responded to the
area and watched him as he walked through several parking lots up and down
Maple looking inside numerous cars. He
eventually returned to the same plaza where the original incident
occurred. He removed a screwdriver
from his bag and approached a Dodge Intrepid where it appeared he was
attempting to enter it when several shoppers walked toward him. He moved into another area of the lot and
approached a Dodge Stratus. He
crouched down and began manipulating the door. He eventually got it open and entered the
vehicle. Officers approached at that
point and took the 21-year-old male suspect from Detroit into custody. He had two screw drivers and a hammer in
his possession. When officers
inspected the original complainant’s vehicle they found the suspect had
punched the driver’s side door lock and attacked the ignition. N/B I-75 near Long Lake, 11/23, 1434 hrs. Troy officers responded to the area on a report that
Warren PD was trying to catch up to a gold Cadillac just stolen from their
city. On-Star provided the vehicle’s
location after the reported theft. A
Troy Officer deployed tire deflation devices in the vehicle’s path on the freeway. It stopped short of the tire deflation
devices. The 25-year-old male driver
from Grand Blanc, 22-year-old female passenger from Pontiac, and 25-year-old
male passenger from Grand Blanc were taken into custody with out incident and
turned over to Warren PD at the scene. Woodside, 11/25, 0805 hrs. Complainant stated he left his ’02 Ford Econoline van
running/warming up in the lot when someone apparently stole it. Construction
Site, 6000 Block of Rochester, 11/23-11/27 Trailer
stolen from construction site. Trailer
contained two concrete buggies and three cement power trowels. Home
Depot Lot, 1177 Coolidge, 11/26, 1500-1520 hrs. ’99 Ford
Econoline E-150 work van containing tools and equipment stolen from lot. Breaking and Entries: Pic-a-Deli, 3381 Rochester,
11/21-11/23, 1730-0825 hrs. Complainant stated he locked the
business on 11/21. When he arrived for
work on 11/23, he discovered the front doors unlocked. Cash was missing from the cash register
drawer. Three cash boxes were missing
from the office with no sign of forced entry. Warehouse, 1400 Axtell, 11/14-11/28 Rear door forced open to gain access
and overhead door opened from inside to allow some sort of vehicle to be
pulled in. Copper fillings and wiring
stolen from throughout. 34 W. Square Lake, 11/29, 0019 hrs. Officers responding to a burglar
alarm discovered the rear door pried open and the cash register lying on the
counter with a small amount of currency stolen. Chuck’s Barber Shop, 44 W. Square
Lake, 11/29, 0019 hrs. While checking the neighboring
businesses in the plaza after discovering the above break-in, officers
discovered the rear door to this business also pried open. The cash register was gone through, however
it was empty. Darlene’s Grooming, 1897 W. South
Boulevard, 11/28-11/29, 1730-0750 hrs. Rear door pried open
to gain access and front counter area ransacked, however nothing missing with
no cash on site. Crash Investigations:

Oliver, 11/27, 2229 hrs. Officers
responded to a report that a ’06 Dodge Magnum crashed into an industrial
building. Officers located the vehicle
partially inside the building, surrounded by debris. The 38-year-old male driver from Rochester
Hills was still on the scene. His
43-year-old male passenger from Oxford had left the scene on foot; however
officers located and returned him to the scene. The driver stated they “had been at the Red
Wings game and had a few drinks.” He
stated they “were on their way to drop his passenger off at his car which was
parked in a nearby lot on Thunderbird.”
He stated when he turned off of Maple north onto Thunderbird, he
decided to “show off” and began driving at a high rate of speed. As he approached the end of Thunderbird at
Oliver (Thunderbird runs N/S; Oliver runs E/W and creates T section with Thunderbird)
he was unable to stop, drove across Oliver, left the roadway, and crashed
into the business.
He was arrested. He blew 0.09
on a breath test. He was conveyed to
the hospital for observation. Indusco Ct. near 14 Mile, 11/26,
0535 hrs. A semi-truck/tractor attempting to
turn around in a lot behind a business got caught up on some low hanging
electrical wires. The pole was pulled
down and the arcing wires came down on top of the truck. Troy FD and a DTE crew were able to free
the 39-year-old male driver from Flint.
He was not injured. Apparently
as the wires were being pulled by the truck, they also caught on a storage
pod and pulled it into a Ford Econoline van in the lot, damaging both the pod
and the van in the process. Credit, Check, Identity Theft, and

Bank, 2800 W. Big Beaver, 11/24, 1820 hrs. Complainant
forgot to remove her card from the ATM machine after completing a
transaction. When she discovered her
mistake and contacted the bank, she learned the card was used to make a
$700.00 fraudulent withdrawal from her account at the same ATM. Based on the times on the two transactions,
it appears the responsible party would have been the next person who used the
machine. 56-year-old
female complainant from Troy indicated she received a letter from a company
claiming to be an evaluation service in the mail. She eventually spoke to a male
“representative” from the company and apparently agreed to work for
them. Shortly thereafter she received
a shipment containing $980.00 cashier’s check with instructions to cash the
check and then go to any Wal-Mart or Money Gram store where she was to wire
$860.00 in cash to a subject in Canada and then fill out and fax a rating
survey evaluating the service she received.
After doing as instructed, she was contacted by her bank and advised
the original check was counterfeit. Complainant
stated she opened a store credit account a couple weeks ago, however had not
yet received the card in the mail.
While shopping at the store in question, a cashier advised her he
could issue her a temporary shopping pass to use against the account. She apparently agreed and made a purchase
against the account after providing her ID.
She stated the cashier was supposed to give her the temporary pass
with her receipt. She states she did not receive it. She was later contacted by the store’s
fraud department inquiring about the legitimacy of an $1840.00 purchase as
well as several $100.00 purchases made against her account at the same store
later the same day. She verified she
had not made/authorized them. Complainant
reported discovering $6000.00 in fraudulent charges made by phone for
computer equipment at a store in Auburn Hills. Complainant had been at the store and made
a single purchase using the credit card in question before the frauds
occurred. Complainant
reported receiving a call from an LPO (Loss Prevention Officer) from a store
conducting an investigation into possible credit fraud involving her
account. $800.00 worth of transactions
was made against her account to purchase gift cards. She confirmed she did not make/approve
them. One
forged check complaint taken. According
to complainant signer/passer is an estranged spouse not on the account. Complainant
reported discovering a fraudulent phone account opened in complainant’s name. One
no-account check report taken. Domestics/Family Troubles: Complainant alleged his
ex-father-in-law punched him when he was dropping his daughter off at his
ex-wife’s home. The suspect denied the
allegation. Troy investigators are following up
on two different reports of domestic assault where the suspect had left
before responding officers arrived. Troy Officers responded to six
incidents involving family troubles/domestic disputes where investigation
revealed no assaults or other crimes occurred, therefore no formal
enforcement action was taken. Complainant reported son with a drug
problem took his car without permission and has not returned it. Complainant accused family member of
fraudulently removing funds from accounts. Drugs/Narcotics: S/B I-75
near Long Lake, 11/23, 1420 hrs. Officers
stopped a blue ’00 Olds Silhouette mini van for speeding 90 mph in the 70 mph
zone. The 47-year-old driver from Mt.
Morris had no license in his possession and was arrested. Four pill bottles were found in his glove box. Two were in the name of a female and
contained 120 tablets each of Vicodin; the third had 6 tablets left of a 120
Rx for Vicodin in the name of a male.
The fourth bottle contained 16 tablets of an as yet unknown medication
with no identifying label. The three
Rx’s were all filled on 11/21 at three different pharmacies. The Rx’s in the name of the female were
issued by two separate doctors according to the labels on the pill
containers. The driver claimed the “listed
individuals were clients of his business which provided medical care.” He stated he “gave them a ride and they
probably left them in his car.”
Investigating officer was not able to locate/contact the individuals
listed on the bottles as of this writing.
Additional charges regarding illegal possession of Rx medications
possible pending outcome of investigation. Hedgewood
and Paragon, 11/27, 2230 hrs. Officers
responded to a report of two suspicious vehicles parked in the construction
site. One was occupied by five males,
the other was unoccupied and had been driven to the scene by several of the
subjects in the first car. A strong
odor of burning marijuana was evident coming from the occupied vehicle. An electronic scale was thrown out the
passenger side window as officers walked up.
Two males were found in possession of marijuana and were
arrested. The other three were
released. A rolling paper machine and
rolling papers were recovered from the vehicle. Drunk/Intoxicated
Driving Incidents of Interest: Embezzlements: A
business representative came to the station to initiate an embezzlement
complainant against a former employee.
Investigating officer indicated the issue may be at least in part
civil rather than criminal. Home Invasions: Horseshoe,
11/19-11/21, 1500-1900 hrs. Rear
door wall glass smashed out to afford entry into home. DVD’s, x-box games, digital camera, and
camcorder stolen. Larcenies: Pot
Belly’s, 3113 Crooks, 11/24, 1145 hrs. Complainant
left her wallet on her table while visiting the restroom and then left. When she realized she forgot her wallet,
she returned to find it no longer present. Trevarro
Hardware, 97 W. Long Lake, 11/21, 1330 hrs. 80-year-old
female complainant from Troy stated she exited the store with her packages
and purse in her cart. It was raining
and apparently a female who was standing near the door with an umbrella
offered to accompany complainant to her car holding the umbrella so
complainant didn’t get wet.
Complainant took her up on the offer.
She loaded her packages into the car and left. Shortly thereafter she noticed her purse
missing. Complainant stated in hind
sight the subject seemed to be constantly talking to her while they walked as
if trying to distract her.
Suspect: W/F, approximately 45-years,
5’-3,” brown short hair. *Note: Complainant in above case came to the
station and reported her purse was dropped off at her home with an unsigned
note that it was found in a shopping cart in the parking lot of the listed
location. None of the contents were
missing. Macy’s,
2750 W. Big Beaver, 11/23, 2000 hrs. Complainant
stated she left her coat and purse on a chair in the shoe department while
she looked in a mirror at a pair of shoes she was trying on. When she returned, her purse was gone. K-Mart,
100 E. Maple, 11/23, 1440 hrs. Complainant
stated she left her wallet on the counter in the Lay-away Department after
picking up merchandise. When she
realized she left it and returned, it was gone. She questioned several employees, as well
as a customer that had been in line behind her. All denied seeing it. Investigation revealed after she walked
away, the male subject in line behind her picked up and concealed the wallet
in his pocket. Investigation further
revealed he made a payment on a lay away account that belonged to a
female. A phone number for that
account holder was obtained in a White Pages directory search. Police computer queries identified a
38-year-old male from Detroit as associated with that telephone number. A photo of that subject was obtained and it
matched the subject seen stealing the wallet.
Investigation continues. T Bird
Lanes, 400 E. Maple, 11/16, 0930-1100 hrs. Complainant
discovered $200.00 missing from the cash drawer. The business was open and there were no
transactions at the register in question during the time the money came up
missing. A and F
Water Heater, 444 W. Maple, 11/21-11/23, 1700-0630 hrs. Complainant
reported someone attempted to steal a company owned utility trailer that was
parked in a rear lot. The trailer was
chained to a post. There were skid
marks on the pavement in front of the trailer indicating a vehicle was
unsuccessfully used in an attempt to pull it away. The chain held. Smith
Middle School, 5835 Donaldson, 11/9, 0800-1530 hrs. Student
stated she left her purse in a classroom over the weekend and when she
returned on Monday it was gone. She
discovered numerous calls and TXT’s made using her cell phone which was
inside the purse. Charter,
11/22, 1300-2000 hrs. Complainant
stated she hosted Thanksgiving dinner at her residence. It was apparently attended by family and
associates of family members she did not know. On 11/26 she noticed a jewelry box
containing numerous pieces of jewelry, a DVD player, cash, and DVD’s missing. Business,
E. Maple, 11/26, 0801 hrs. Complainant
reported finding opened mail from an individual in his dumpster. Complainant stated they have found
garbage/mail from the same subject in their dumpster in the past. Officers proceeded to the residence located
in Troy. The subject stated, “he and
his wife have noticed their garbage missing a couple times in the past and
they also noted they didn’t receive a couple of recent financial statements.” He was advised to contact his credit
companies to insure no current fraud. Charter,
11/26, 1515-1530 hrs. Bluetooth
phone reported missing/stolen from residence. Complainant stated the item was discovered
missing after a TV service technician had been in the apartment. Larcenies from Autos: Troy
Community Center, 3179 Livernois, 11/23, 1335-1420 hrs. ’06 Jeep
Liberty parked in lot had passenger side front window smashed out and purse
stolen. John R,
11/28-11/29, 2300-0800 hrs. ’84
Pontiac Firebird parked in apartment complex lot had driver’s side door
window broken out and an amplifier stolen from rear hatch area. Salem,
11/15-11/16 Lap top
stolen from ’08 Cadillac parked in drive with no sign of forced entry. St.
Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5500 Adams, 11/25, 1000-1130 hrs. Side
window smashed out of an ’06 Chrysler Town and Country van parked in lot and
purse stolen Malicious Destruction of Property: Coachman,
11/26-11/27, 2000-0800 hrs. ’03 Ford
parked in apartment complex lot had driver’s side rear tire slashed. Counselor
reported a subject became upset during a family therapy session and smashed a
picture frame and damaged the door when he got up and left. Minors and Alcohol: An
18-year-old male from Romeo who was the driver of a vehicle stopped for a
traffic violation was found in possession of several bottles of alcohol. He was cited and released at the scene for “Minor
Transporting Alcohol in a Vehicle.” Avalon,
11/23, 2310 hrs. Officers
responded to a report of a “loud party with kids running through the
neighborhood and minors drinking.”
Upon arrival officers could smell a strong odor of burning
marijuana. A 17-year-old male from
Troy exited the garage. As he did,
officers observed a plume of marijuana smoke and beer bottles inside the
garage behind him. He admitted “smoking
marijuana in the garage with other youths who were at the party,” but advised
officers he “was the only one still inside the garage.” A partially smoked marijuana cigarette was
found in one of his pockets. He was
cited and released for “Possession of Marijuana.” At the door of the home, officers made contact
with a 16-year-old female who stated “she hosted the party.” She explained her “parents were out of town
and she told them she was going to spend the night at a friend’s house.” She admitted she “had been drinking as well
as several others who were in attendance.”
In all, five 17-year-old males from Troy were cited for “MIP”(Minor in
Possession) and released to their parents who were summoned to the scene to
pick them up. One 16-year-old male and
three 16-year-old females from Troy in addition to a 16-year-old female from
Ohio (who was visiting one of the 16-year-old females from Troy) were found
to have been drinking. They were
transported to the station where juvenile petitions for “MIP” were initiated
against them and they were turned over to parents. Blood alcohol levels on PBT’s ranged from 0.02
to 0.13. The homeowner was contacted
and advised of the situation. She
confirmed her daughter was supposed to be staying with a friend. She had her older daughter come to the home
to pick her up and sign the juvenile petition for MIP. Several bottles of liquor and beer cans
were confiscated from the basement.
The homeowner stated there was no alcohol in the home when she left. Neighbor
Troubles: Peace Officer/Civil: 42-year-old
female complainant hired a contractor to do driveway and back yard work at
her residence on 9/29/07. She gave him
two checks as deposits for the work, one for $3000.00 and another for
$1000.00. On 10/23/07 an apparent sub-contractor came to her home and began
the work. That individual came back
and picked up the truck he left and informed complainant the original subject
never paid him. No one has been back
since and the complainant has not been able to get the original subject to return
her calls. The original subject is a
24-year-old male from Warren. The subject
who began the work is a 29-year-old male from Madison Hgts. Phone Calls/Harassment/Threats: One
harassing telephone call report taken; one threats report taken; three
harassment reports taken. Retail Fraud: Speedway,
880 E. Maple, 11/24, 2335 hrs. Complainant
reported an older W/M, approximately 60-years, 5’-6,” gray hair, missing
teeth, wearing a dark knit hat and dark brown jacket was loitering around the
battery display and making what appeared to be stuffing motions into his
coat. The subject left in an older
gray SUV driven by a female after which complainant discovered several
batteries missing from the display. Macy’s,
500 W. 14 Mile, 11/27, 1300 hrs. Clerk
reported subject entered the Fine Jewelry Department and initially asked
about watches. He then indicated he
was also interested in diamond earrings.
He looked and inquired about several different sets and eventually
asked to see a pair valued at $14,000.00.
The clerk gave him the set in question, at which point he ran out of
the store with them. Suspect: B/M, late 20’s to early 30’s, 5’-7,” 160,
wearing a dark brown leather jacket. Speedway,
11/28, 1848 hrs. Approximately
30 packs of Black and Mild cigars stolen from display by a W/M, approximately
45-years-old, gray/brown hair, mustache, wearing a flannel shirt,
blue jeans and hat. CVS, 2963 E. Big Beaver, 1/26, 1845
hrs. Manager reported a male subject was
observed behind the liquor counter selecting several bottles of liquor. Two of the liquor boxes the subject was
seen removing were later found discarded and empty in one of the aisles. The suspect is described as a male, wearing
a Detroit Lions jacket, with a tattoo on the back of his neck. Manager stated the suspect was accompanied by
a second male at the time. He stated
the same two were in the store loading up a shopping cart with liquor
approximately two weeks ago. He stated
at that time he felt they were suspicious and asked them several times if he
could help them. He stated they
eventually left the store, leaving the shopping cart and liquor behind. They were seen driving a silver Mercury
that day. Macy’s, 2750 W. Big Beaver, 11/29,
1923 hrs. LPO (Loss Prevention Officer) reported
observing a female select several clothing items and enter a fitting
room. When the subject exited, she
carried everything out but a Tracy skirt valued at $298.00. A check of the fitting room did not locate
the skirt. LPO approached the subject
after she exited with out making any purchases. The subject at first stated she’d “just
give the item back if the LPO would let her go.” She then apparently changed her mind,
stating she had grandkids, couldn’t go to jail, and began struggling with the
LPO. She told the LPO she “had a knife
and would cut her.” The LPO backed
away. The suspect was last seen
driving off in a white Pontiac Grand AM.
Suspect: B/F, approximately 50-years
old, 5’-2,” short black hair with orange tips, wearing a gray pant suit,
carrying a white jacket. Limited, 412 W. 14 Mile, 11/29,
1400-1600 hrs. Manager reported discovering 10
dresses valued at $98.00 each missing from a rack. Robberies: Suspicious Incidents: S/B I-75 near Coolidge, 1/21, 1615
hrs. 19-yea-old male complainant from
Detroit reported observing the driver of a PT Cruiser brandish what appeared
to be a handgun as he was driving along side complainant’s truck. Officers stopped the PT Cruiser and
observed a toy plastic revolver still in the bag with a sales receipt dated
11/21 lying on the back seat. The 21-year-old
male driver/lone occupant from Warren denied involvement in a traffic
altercation with complainant and stated he “had the gun in his lap and did
not point it.” He declined further
comment/explanation. Complainant
confirmed it was not pointed at him.
The gun was confiscated and the driver released. Traffic

Offenses: Welfare Checks: Officers
responded to an address where a 15-year-old female from Ferndale was
reportedly in need of medical treatment after attending a party at another
location in Troy. Her mother arrived
just before officers and accompanied her daughter to the hospital via
ambulance for treatment. Officers
proceeded to the party location where they were informed a few people were
getting together and one of the kids snuck in a bottle of alcohol. Three
17-year-old males from Troy admitted drinking. Their parents were already on
the scene picking them up. Troy Officers responded to two incidents
involving individuals experiencing emotional/psychological difficulties and
assisted with transport to the hospital for evaluation/commitment. Special
Events Information: Miscellaneous Information: Office Building Lot, 200 Kirts,
11/27, 1400 hrs. Tree blown over by high winds fell
on top of an ’00 Ford GT parked in lot causing damage. Office Building Lot, 888 W. Big
Beaver, 11/29, 1130 hrs. GMC Envoy parked in lot had
windshield broken out by debris that apparently fell from the roof of the
