initial down payment of $1000.00 and $16.00 per month directly withdrawn from
her checking account. She
agreed, and provided her account information. After the call, she had second thoughts about its
legitimacy and contacted her dealership. She was advised the company does not use phone
solicitation to extend warranty programs on their cars. She contacted her bank and cancelled
the account with no losses. Complainant obtained a
credit report while in the process of re-mortgaging his home and discovered a
fraudulent credit account with an unpaid $250.00 balance open in his name. Complainant posted her
resume on an Internet web site.
She received an e-mail response from a company and was hired as a
“Junior Financial Agent.” She
was directed to open a joint bank account in her and the company’s name. She was advised the company would
make deposits into the account and then she would receive e-mail instructions
directing her where to transfer monies.
She noted several large deposits, one for $9000.00. She was directed to make transfers to
individuals she believes reside in Latvia, however she discovered the bank
closed the account. When she
contacted the bank she was advised the account was closed due to fraudulent
activities. She lost no money,
however the “company” has all of her personal information and she is
concerned about additional fraud. Company representative
came to the station to report a failed attempt to hack into the company’s
computers during the last two weekends.
Complainant indicated the hacking attempt may have originated in
China. Complainant reported

Enclosed was the usual check covering taxes for $4850.00 that he was
to deposit in his account, which he did. The toll free number he was provided to follow-up with for

$100.00 into his account. The
bill was a counterfeit $100.00 made up using a $5.00 bill. When asked where he got it, he
claimed he “got it from his son.”
He stated his son told him it was part of the monies he obtained from
the bank when he cashed the check earlier that day. The bank provided the subject a legitimate $100.00

parked another car along Millay Street, which they entered and fled the area
in after abandoning the Cherokee, or an accomplice or accomplices were
waiting for them in a second vehicle on Millay Street at the point where they
abandoned the Cherokee. An
awaiting or parked second car is consistent with the Police K-9 failing to
locate a foot track leading away from that immediate area. The Cherokee was stolen out of
Detroit. It is believed a
significant amount of the money stolen in the robbery was recovered. FBI agents who responded indicated
this incident is consistent with a similar series of bank robberies that have
occurred recently in southeast Michigan and northern Ohio. The suspects target the bank vault
rather than an individual teller window, arrive in a stolen vehicle, and dump
the stolen car in the immediate vicinity after making their initial
escape. They were both dressed
in white shirts, ties, khaki pants, baseball caps, and had bandanas pulled up
over their faces. No one was
injured in today’s incident; no shots were fired. Baker
Middle School is located in the same subdivision where the Cherokee was
abandoned. Troy officers
requested that school lock down during the initial investigation. Troy School District personnel locked
down three additional schools that are in the vicinity, although not the
immediate area of the incident as an additional safety precaution. Those were Wattles Elementary,
Barnard Elementary, and Morse Elementary. There was no evidence of any threat or danger in or around
Baker School or that the suspects were headed that way, however given the
nature of the incident, the lock down was requested by responding officers
until it was determined that the suspects were no longer in the area. It is
believed that like the recovered money and get away car, the suspects were
splashed with the bright colored red dye while attempting to make their get
away. Both their clothing and skin may have been stained. Anyone with any information
that might assist in this investigation is asked to contact the Troy Police
Department at 248-524-3477 or the Detroit Office of the FBI at
313-965-2323. There is a $20,000.00 reward being offered for information
leading to the identification and arrest of these suspects.
