Altercations/Disorderly Conduct:

Assaults:

John R Spring, 1782 E. Maple, 8/28, 1300 hrs.

A 54-year-old male complainant from Hazel Park came to the station to report that a 50-year-old male co-worker from Troy punched him.  Apparently the complainant found a banana in the shop and threw it in the garbage thinking it was old.  When the suspect returned from lunch and questioned the complainant about what turned out to be his missing banana, the complainant denied knowledge of it.  The suspect later learned the complainant had in fact thrown it out after a CCTV tape of the shop area was reviewed.  He allegedly confronted the complainant and punched him in the head before the scuffle was broken up.

Burger King, 950 E. Big Beaver, 8/18, 2000 hrs.

A 25-year-old male complainant from Farmington Hills came to the station on 8/30 to report that on the evening of 8/18 he pulled into the Burger King lot with his 22-year-old male friend from Troy.  He stated “they argued about what they were going to do that night,” and as he exited his ’06 Jeep Commander, the “friend” punched him, causing him to fall to the ground.  He stated the suspect “began to strike him with some sort of metal object.”  He stated he “doesn’t remember much after the attack but does remember the suspect took his car and remembers being in the hospital.”

Group Home, Cameron, 9/7, 0145 hrs.

Employee reported 19-year-old female resident assaulted her over a dispute regarding the house rules.  The resident was arrested.  The resident had walked away earlier in the day.  She was later found and returned to the residence after which the dispute occurred.

Assist Other Department/Law Enforcement:

Auto/Vehicle Thefts:

Sears Lot, Oakland Mall, 412 W. 14 Mile, 8/31, 1300-1800 hrs.

’01 Dodge Caravan stolen from north lot.

Birchwood, 9/1, 0252 hrs.

Complainant who was visiting the residence reported hearing a car start up in the drive, looking out and observing her ’92 Ford Taurus being driven away at a high rate of speed.  She stated the “car was in the drive with the windows down and the keys in it.” While on the scene Troy officers learned the Royal Oak Police Department stopped the vehicle on 14 Mile near Vermont and had the 23-year-old male driver from Troy in custody.  They recovered a Michigan ID card in his possession that appears to be from an earlier larceny from auto that occurred in Clawson.

Breaking and Entries:

Dean Sellers, 2600 W. Maple, 9/2-9/3, 0830-1700 hrs.

Windowpane broken out in an overhead garage door in the service area to gain entry.  An interior window and window on an interior door were also broken out in an apparent but unsuccessful attempt to gain access to the office area.  Nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Discount Tire, 3435 Rochester, 9/6, 1951 hrs.

Officers responding to a burglar alarm found the door clasp to the used tire room pried off and the door ajar.  Although several tires were apparently moved closer to the door from where they were being stored, a business representative who was called to the scene indicated none were missing.

Crash Investigations:

Nino Salvaggio’s, 6835 Rochester, 9/6, 1420 hrs.

Complainant came to the station to report that in the lot an ‘04 Toyota Camry struck her parked car.  The Toyota reportedly left after striking her vehicle.  She obtained the plate.  It registered to a 36-year-old female from Troy.  Officer proceeded to that address and located the Toyota with damage to the rear bumper.  He made contact with the owner who admitted, “hitting complainant’s vehicle while backing in the lot, but claimed since no one was around, she left.”  She told the officer it “wasn’t her intention to do anything wrong, she just didn’t know she had to identify herself.”  She was cited and released for “Failing to Stop and ID at a Private Property Accident.”

Northfield and Wattles, 9/6, 1123 hrs.

Officers observed a 22-year-old male subject from Troy walking down and across Northfield Parkway.  He was looking back at an older male who was following him from a distance and talking on a cell phone.  Officers questioned the older gentleman if there was a problem, and he retorted the younger male “had drugs in his possession.”  When officers attempted to approach the subject he fled on foot through a nearby subdivision.  Officers followed on foot and eventually stopped and detained him.  While running, the suspect threw what turned out to be a syringe full of liquefied cocaine and a rock of crack cocaine.  Both were recovered.  The subject was arrested.  The older male turned out to be the suspect’s father who apparently interrupted his son attempting to inject the drugs.

Officers responded to the area on a report of a dark colored Chevy S-10 pickup traveling south in the northbound lanes.  Prior to their arrival in the area, the complainant reported the suspect vehicle had crossed the median near Crooks and was now south in the southbound lanes.   Officers located and stopped it near Rochester.  The 25-year-old male driver from Ida, Michigan explained he “had originally been at the Peach Festival in Romeo where he consumed a pitcher of beer.”  He stated he “went to a friend’s apartment in Romeo and fell asleep.”  He stated he “woke up and was trying to drive home.”  He admitted “finding himself southbound in the northbound lanes for what he described as about two minutes.”  A witness reported observing him going the wrong way for about four miles.  He smelled of intoxicants and failed sobriety tests.  He blew 0.15 on a breath test.  He was charged as a second offense.

14 Mile near I-75, 9/1, 0153 hrs.

Officer on patrol located a crash in the westbound lanes of 14 mile near the I-75 entrance ramp to N/B I-75.  There were no significant injuries involving the occupants of the involved vehicles which were a ‘00 Pontiac Grand Prix and a ’07 Volvo.  Investigation revealed the 28-year-old male driver of the Volvo and his two passengers, a 27-year-old male from Georgia and a 22-year-old female from Royal Oak had just left a bar in Madison Heights where they had been drinking.  They were proceeding north on Concord just south of 14 Mile when the driver turned westbound into the eastbound lanes of 14 Mile, which is a divided roadway in that area.   After traveling the wrong way for a short distance, the driver proceeded into the westbound lanes by crossing the center median through a turn around lane.  Upon doing so, he struck the Pontiac, which was in the westbound lanes of 14 Mile.  The 28-year-old driver of the Volvo admitted to officers that he “was drunk,” and explained he “was trying to get his passengers home because they were more drunk than he was.”  He smelled strongly of intoxicants, failed sobriety tests, blew 0.25 on a PBT (Preliminary Breath Test) and was arrested.  A search warrant was obtained for his blood  (this was a third offense felony drunk driving charge).  He also had an arrest warrant from another jurisdiction for failing to appear on a drunk driving case.  The driver of the Grand Prix, a 31-year-old male from Pontiac was also intoxicated.  He stated he “had two drinks.”  He failed sobriety tests and was arrested.  He blew 0.18 on a breath test.
