green light. Upon walking up to the
car, the driver/lone occupant was passed out.
When the officer knocked on the window, he woke up and drove off. The officer followed as the vehicle
eventually pulled into and stopped in the Troy Hilton lot. The driver was confused, shaking and
smelled of marijuana. When asked why
he drove off, he stated he “was tired and didn’t realize what was going on.” He later offered that he was “trying to get
to a well lit area.” When asked about
drinking, drugs, or medications, he stated he “was trying to wean himself off
his medication and hadn’t slept for more than a few hours in the last several
days.” Later, his story changed and he
claimed his “doctor just increased his medication.” When asked what he was taking, he stated “Xanax.” He stated he had “a couple of drinks at the
bar earlier”, as well. After failing
sobriety tests, he claimed he “may have lost track of how much of his
medication he took and taken an extra one or two pills.” He blew 0.00 on a PBT (Preliminary Breath

vehicles. As she approached, the male
driver quickly exited, dropping his cell phone on the lot. When asked why he was so nervous and why he
had pulled into the lot, the 33-year-old male from Battle Creek stated he-wasn’t
supposed to be driving and thought he could hide in the lot to avoid her
locating him.” He smelled of marijuana
and alcohol. He stated “he and the
female passenger had been drinking at a bar.”
He failed sobriety tests, blew 0.12 on a PBT and was arrested. His license was found to be suspended, as
well. Officers spoke to his passenger
who presented an ID in the name of a 27-year-old female. Officers challenged her about her age as
she appeared much younger than 27. She
claimed “life was good to her and she just looked younger than she was.” She was intoxicated. When questioned on her date of birth without
the aid of the ID she provided, she had difficulty reciting it. Officers noticed what appeared to be
marijuana on her shirt and all over the seat where she was sitting. There was marijuana residue throughout the
interior areas of the car, as well.
She explained she “was rolling a fatty and dropped it.” An open pint of whiskey was located under
her seat. Her correct ID was located
inside her purse which showed she was actually 18 out of Battle Creek. She was arrested for “Hinder/obstruct by
providing false ID,” “Possession of Marijuana,” and “Open Intoxicants in a
motor vehicle.” A small baggie of
marijuana was confiscated from the center console. Officers recovered a
loaded .380 handgun in the glove box.
The female explained she “bought the gun from someone in Battle Creek
and brought it with them when they decided to visit the area for protection.” She stated she put the gun in the glove
box when they saw the officer trying to pull them over. She was charged with “CCW” (Carrying a
Concealed Weapon). The driver stated he “wasn’t aware she had it in the car
until they were being pulled over.”
