Crime Alert for period ending March 28,
2008 Altercations/Disorderly Conduct: Assaults: Kirts, 3/21, 1612 hrs. A 33-year-old male
complainant from Detroit came to the station to report he is a contracted
employee assigned to a business wherein he alleges he slid his feet under his
desk and apparently into an adjoining cubicle. He claims the female in that cubicle
advised him to keep his feet to his side of the wall and kicked his foot
twice. Bailey’s Pub, 1950 W.
Maple, 3/26, 0120 hrs. A 25-year-old female
from Rochester Hills stated she got into an argument with a female
acquaintance after she accused the subject of harassing a friend via text
messages. Angered, the subject invited
complainant outside so she could beat her up.
Complainant stated she followed the woman into the parking lot where
the subject promptly punched her in the nose, bloodying it. The suspect got into a vehicle and
left. Complainant believes the suspect
is a 19-year-old female possibly from Roseville. No medical attention required. Assist Other Department/Law Enforcement: Auto/Vehicle Thefts: Oakland Mall, 412 W. 14 Mile, 3/21, 1400-1700 hrs. ’00 Chrysler Cirrus stolen from south side lot. Building, 5455 Corporate, 3/21-3/24, 1530-0700 hrs. Unsuccessful
attempts made to pry the doors on two office suites, a third was successful
and a lap top computer was stolen. Troy
Union School, 1340 E. Square Lake, 3/26, 2320 hrs. Officers
responding to an alarm observed lights on and a male wearing a blue hooded
sweatshirt and blue rubber gloves sitting in front of a safe in the school
office. He was joined there by a
second male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black gloves. The first male proceeded to try to open
several cabinets in the office. They
moved on to the Teacher’s Lounge.
Officers entered the building, proceeded to the lounge, and took both
suspects into custody. Investigation
revealed they entered the school via a roof hatch. Two flashlights were recovered from the
Teacher’s Lounge where the suspects were arrested. Officers recovered a walkie-talkie radio
from the office in one of the suspect’s pockets along with two sets of school
keys. They recovered a set of school keys
in the other suspect’s pocket. The
suspects told officers they “picked up the keys once inside the school, but
were unsure what they were for.” The
16-year-old male from Shelby Township was transported to the station where
juvenile petitions for breaking and entry were initiated against him and he
was turned over to his parents. His 17-year-old male associate from Troy was
arrested and held pending arraignment for B & E. Crash Investigations: Rochester and Big Beaver, 10/21,
1635 hrs. Complainant came to the station on
10/21/07 to report her vehicle was struck from behind by the female driver of
a ’97 gold Ford. They exchanged
information and went their separate ways.
Complainant wrote the responsible driver’s license plate information
down as she drove off. The
investigating officer determined the at fault driver provided complainant
fictitious identifying information. He
was eventually able to determine her true identity which is 33-year-old
female from Detroit. The complainant
successfully picked her out of a photo line up. The investigating officer obtained an
arrest warrant for the suspect for leaving the scene of a crash with out
providing proper identification, driving on a suspended license, and failing
to stop within an assured clear distance on 3/21/08. Notice sent to suspect advising of
warrant/charges. Credit, Check, Identity Theft, and
other Fraud: Complainant
reported someone counterfeited a check using his account number for $157.95, as
well as made an on-line payment for $481.89 using his account information. Complainant
reported her purse was stolen in Bloomfield Twp. and someone proceeded to
make two fraudulent purchases using her credit card at a store in Troy for
approximately $400.00 in total. Complainant
reported someone attempted to open a fraudulent line of credit using his
personal information in January. In
February he received notices acknowledging unauthorized address change
attempts on two of his credit accounts.
There were also unauthorized purchases against his account for over
$4000.00. Complainant
reported receiving an overdraft notice from her bank. When she followed-up, she discovered 19
fraudulent transactions for approximately $2200.00 in total. Footlocker,
Oakland Mall, 366 W. 14 Mile, 3/24, 1325-1425 hrs. Complainant
reported a male subject purchased a gift card and two pair of shoes using a
credit card for a total of $318.00.
Later, they received a call from the true credit card holder reporting
his wallet was stolen from his car in Madison Heights earlier in the day and
the purchase was fraudulent.
Complainant stated they cancelled the gift card only to get a call
from a male later complaining that the card he purchased wasn’t working. Complainant invited him to come back and
they’d see what they could do. He
replied “he’d send his wife in with it.”
When the 28-year-old female from Detroit arrived with it, Troy
officers were summoned and interviewed her.
She claimed her boyfriend sent her with the gift card to get the
amount credited to the credit card used in the earlier purchase. Officers confiscated the gift card and
released her. The male suspect is
possibly a 32-year-old male from Detroit. Troy
Marriott, 200 W. Big Beaver, 1/25-3/25 Two
counterfeit VISA/American Express traveler’s checks totaling $1000.00 were
returned from their bank. Macy’s,
Somerset, 2750 W. Big Beaver, 3/11, 1517 hrs. LPO
(Loss Prevention Officer) came to the station to report that several pair of
shoes totaling $1370.00 had been purchased via phone and were picked up on
3/10. The next day three males
returned three pair of those shoes for a refund which was placed on a gift
card for $779.10. Later investigation
revealed the true holder of the credit account number used was deceased. Suburban
Cadillac, 1810 Maplelawn, 11/30/07 Complainant
reported the dealership was contacted by a detective from a PD in Illinois
investigating a fraudulent loan taken out in the name of a 47-year-old male
from his jurisdiction for a $23,000.00 vehicle purchase at the
dealership. The sale was for a ’05
Pontiac G6. Records indicated a male
and female made the purchase. The male
apparently provided an Ohio ID card in the name of the complainant from
Illinois. The female presented a
Michigan ID card in the name of a 20-year-old female from Detroit. The employee who oversaw the sale no longer
works at the dealership. LaSalle
Bank, 150 E. Maple, 1/18 Complainant
came to the station to report an individual identifying himself as a
44-year-old male from Birmingham opened an account in December. He deposited a check for $1000.00 made out
to himself into his account in Troy on 1/18.
The check was later returned by the issuing bank as not from a valid
account. Withdrawals had apparently
been made against the deposit. Contact attempts with the subject in an
attempt to make the check good have not been responded to. Complainant reported the same subject is
suspected of similar frauds at branches in other cities for as much as
$5000.00 in total. Complainant
reported she suspects her 18-year-old son of stealing, forging, and cashing
two of her personal checks for a total of $1600.00. It appears his 18-year-old female associate
from Southfield may have assisted in cashing them at a bank where she has an
account, as her name also appears on the memo line. The male does not have a bank account. Complainant
reported his wife took out a loan in the amount of $14,000.00. His wife reportedly gave the check to a
female who reportedly represented she worked for some mortgage company and
was supposed to use it to help complainant and his wife buy a house. Apparently the money is gone and there is
no information regarding a house. The
name provided by the complainant for the female that was supposed to be helping
them comes back no record. The name of
the mortgage company complainant stated the subject provided appears
non-existent. The phone number comes
back to some kind of recruiting center. A 68-year-old
female from Troy reported receiving a letter notifying her she won $40,000
cash and a trip. A check for $2850.00
accompanied the letter with instructions to deposit it and send $2500.00 of
it to an address in Canada to cover processing fees associated with her
prize. She deposited the check, sent
her own check in the amount of $2500.00 as directed, only to find out after
the fact the original check was counterfeit.
She also discovered someone used the account information on her
personal check to make a fraudulent withdrawal from her bank account in the
amount of $1000.00. JC
Penney, Oakland Mall, 700 W. 14 Mile, 3/26, 1730 hrs. LPO’s
reported a female subject was in the credit department attempting to obtain a
temporary charge card using a credit account number she represented belonged
to her fiancé. When the number was
entered into the computer, it came back as a “blocked account.” The female left only to return ten minutes
later with a different credit account number trying the same thing. LPO’s were able to identify the true
account holder from Ohio who verified the attempt was a fraud. Police were called and the suspect fled,
leaving her Michigan ID card behind.
Responding officers observed her enter the passenger side of a ’00
beige Jaguar which immediately drove away.
Officers were able to catch up and stop it on 14 Mile. The 37-year-old female driver from Detroit
was arrested for “Driving on a Suspended License.” The 43-year-old female passenger from
Detroit who had been attempting the credit fraud claimed she obtained the
account information from a guy she met in a club and was trying to get her
name on the account. Officers
recovered paperwork in her purse listing the personal information of the true
account holder from Ohio. She was
arrested for credit fraud. Domestics/Family Troubles: Troy Officers responded to five
incidents involving family troubles/domestic disputes where investigation
revealed no assaults or other crimes occurred, therefore no formal
enforcement action was taken. Drugs/Narcotics: Drunk/Intoxicated Driving Incidents
of Interest: 14 Mile
and Stephenson, 3/22, 0325 hrs. Officers
responded to a report of a person slumped over the wheel of a silver
SUV. Officers located a Chevy Equinox
at the intersection with the 29-year-old male driver from Royal Oak passed
out. The car was running, in gear, and
his foot was on the brake. Officers
had difficulty awakening the driver, opened the door and placed the car in
park. Once the driver awoke, the
officer asked him what was wrong. He
responded he “was drunk.” He gave the
officer’s flashlight a “high-five (the officer’s flashlight did not
reciprocate).” He smelled strongly of
intoxicants and had to be assisted, due his imbalance. He tried but was unable to perform sobriety
tests due to his level of intoxication.
He blew 0.22 on a PBT (Preliminary Breath Test) and was arrested. He refused to take a breath test, so a
search warrant for his blood was obtained. Dequindre
and 14 Mile, 3/21, 0930 hrs. Complainants
reported a ’96 Olds LSS came to a stop against a parked car in the parking
lot of a restaurant. The male
driver/lone occupant was found passed out behind the wheel by witnesses. The vehicle description matched a report of
a possible drunk driver called in to Troy dispatch shortly before the crash
by a cell phone caller. Witnesses
reported the doors were locked and windows were up. After pounding on the windows and managing
to wake the driver up, witness reported he placed the car in reverse and
tried to drive off. A bystander began
pounding on the door window at which point the driver opened the door. The bystander managed to get the car in
park and the ignition turned off.
Responding officers noted the driver smelled of intoxicants and was
unsteady on his feet, requiring assistance to prevent him from losing his
balance and falling down. He could not
perform sobriety tests. He blew 0.31
on a PBT and the 42-year-old male from Sterling Hgts. was arrested. He kept passing out and could not stand up.
He was transported to the hospital for detox and a search warrant from his
blood was obtained. Toxicology is
pending. Rochester
and Long Lake, 3/25, 0123 hrs. Cell
phone caller reported a ’94 green and brown Mercury mini-van was weaving all
over the road. A responding officer
located it N/B on Rochester S/O Long Lake, made similar observations and
stopped it. The male driver/lone
occupant denied drinking in spite of officers smelling the odor of
intoxicants coming from his breath.
The driver advised he had taken a Xanax for a medical condition. A small baggie of marijuana was recovered
from his pocket. He stated he “smoked
some a couple hours earlier.” He
indicated there was “another small baggie in the van.” That was located and recovered from the
front seat. He was unsteady on his
feet, had slurred speech, and failed sobriety tests, but only blew 0.02 on a
PBT. His license was found to be
suspended. The 25-year-old male from
Dearborn was arrested. He refused to
take a blood test so a search warrant was obtained. Toxicology is pending. Embezzlements: Macy’s, Somerset, 2750 W. Big
Beaver, 3/12, 1019-1227 hrs. LPO came to the station to initiate
an embezzlement complaint against a 21-year-old male cashier from Kalamazoo
who rang up two fraudulent returns totaling approximately $70.00 and placed
the amounts onto a gift card he had in his possession. Macy’s,
Somerset Collection, 2750 W. Big Beaver, 2/5-3/13 LPO came
to the station to initiate an embezzlement complaint against a 44-year-old male
former cashier from Detroit who rang up 40% unauthorized discounts on two
separate occasions, rang up three fraudulent refunds placing the refunded
amounts on a gift card he had in his possession on three separate occasions,
and rang a fraudulent return crediting the refund amount to his own Macy’s
account. Total fraud approximately
$700.00. Prosecution pending. Home
Invasions: Larcenies: Aldi
Foods, 2976 E. Big Beaver, 3/21, 0957 hrs. 53-year-old
female complainant from Warren reported she was approached while sitting in
her car by a female subject who claimed she had locked her keys in her car
and asked if she could use complainant’s cell phone to get help. As complainant pushed in the number the
subject provided, the suspect reached into complainant’s open passenger side
window and snatched her purse.
Complainant yelled to a passerby in the lot that the suspect just
stole her purse. The passerby followed
the suspect vehicle, a green ’98 Ford Explorer, and provided the license
plate information to Troy dispatch via cell phone. Responding officers located it near Sparta
and Big Beaver. It was being driven by
a male. The Explorer fled and escaped
as officers approached/attempted to stop it.
Investigators identified the driver as a 27-year-old male from
Birmingham and the female that took the purse as a 27-year-old from Port
Huron. Madison Hgts. PD contacted Troy
PD on 3/24 advising they located and stopped the suspect vehicle in the area
of Concord and 14 Mile. The female was
driving and was arrested. The male
managed to escape on foot. The male
that was driving in the Troy incident listed above – Christopher Leon was the
passenger when stopped by Madison Hgts. PD and he is still on the loose. He has arrest warrants from other unrelated
cases with Troy PD, as well as other jurisdictions. Troy investigators anticipate obtaining an
arrest warrant for “Fleeing and Eluding” in the Troy purse larceny. Information developed by Troy investigators
regarding these suspects is they were living out of the Ford Explorer. The Explorer was impounded by Madison Hgts.
P.D. The male suspect may be sleeping
in apartment basement storage areas, as apparently the suspects have done
that in the past. Anyone with
information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact Troy Police
Department at 248-524-3477. His photo
