Crime Alert for period ending October 17,
2008 Altercations/Disorderly Conduct: Assaults: Assist Other Department/Law
Enforcement: Larceny from Auto Arrest October 14th
approximately 21:45 hours For
the last several months the city of Troy along with other cities in Southeast
Oakland County has been inundated with the theft of motor vehicles and
larceny from autos. These thefts have
been considerable in the area of Health Clubs throughout Troy, Royal Oak,
Birmingham, and Madison Heights. Police
Officers from the Troy Police Department put a significant effort forward and
conducted saturated patrol efforts in the parking lots of Retail
Establishments and Health Clubs. On Tuesday
October 14th, a Plain Clothes Troy Police Officer observed an

fashion as occupants would jump out of their van and look into parked
vehicles. This investigation lead our
Officers in and out of the city of Troy including the parking lot of Home
Depot. Ultimately these Troy Police Officers effected the arrest of two
individuals who broke into a Jeep Cherokee in the city of Ferndale, in the
area of Pavalon and Woodward. The
occupants of the suspicious Econoline Van broke into the Jeep Cherokee and
unsuccessfully attempted to steal this vehicle, however did remove the radio
from the dash. Upon arrest, Officers

14th Annual Troy Police VFW Post ##4037 Sponsored Food & Gift Drive!! With the holiday season just around the corner our annual
food/gift drive is in the process of soliciting assistance throughout the
Troy business, government and residential community in collecting food/gifts,
financial donations and adopting families in Troy who require assistance. Recent economic troubles have hit
everyone in our area, but with disproportionate impact to those already
experiencing economic hardships. Our well-organized
groups of dedicated and caring Troy volunteers ensure that collected
Food/Gift contributions are given directly to those persons needing
assistance. Again we call upon our community volunteers to keep this annual program running smoothly. This is my fourth year coordinating the
food/gift drive along with Charlie Solis of the VFW and I look forward to
assisting you in this worthwhile program.
Please contact me with your point of contact person, any ideas, family
adoption requests and coordination concerns. P.O.
Andy Breidenich – Troy Police Department (248)524-3464 a.breidenich@troymi.gov Troy Coalition Seeks Community Support for the Annual Celebrity
Night Dinner This year’s
annual Celebrity Night Dinner hosted by the Troy Community Coalition for the
Prevention of Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Abuse will be held at the San Marino
Club on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. The San Marino Club is located at 1685 E.
Big Beaver in Troy. The Coalition
partners with several agencies in the city to provide a myriad of prevention
and education programs unique to Troy both in the schools and general
community. Topics include drug and alcohol abuse prevention and awareness for
teens and parents; the impact of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco on health and
development; dealing with peer pressure; responsible life choices; the impact
of bad choices on college, career, and health. The Coalition sponsors youth dialog days
where teens meet and share perceptions, problems, and ideas with community
and business leaders. In addition,
the Coalition is a major sponsor of the summer Jam Fest Concert Series for
middle and high school teens, Spring Break Troy Style where organized
activities are provided throughout the community during spring break, and a
summer camp that provides an organized and chaperoned program for kids that
would otherwise remain unsupervised during the day time hours in the summer.
Community forums are sponsored on a variety of topics including media
influence on teens, prescription drug abuse, and Internet safety. The Coalition advocates with community,
political, and business leaders on issues that affect the quality of life for
all who live, work, and do business in this community. Funding for these
efforts is derived from grants, donations, and fund raisers. The challenging economy has significantly
reduced the availability of grants, resulting in greater reliance on fund
raising and donations to maintain these high quality programs. The Celebrity Night Dinner is the key
annual fund raiser the Coalition depends upon to insure its efforts remain
sustainable. This event is a
very entertaining, positive, and upbeat night out. The event is not solely for Coalition
members. Parents, groups,
organizations, and businesses that are similarly concerned about youth
related issues are especially asked to consider attending and supporting this
event. Tickets are $125.00 per person,
$90.00 of which is tax deductable.
Businesses in town are asked to consider sponsoring a table, perhaps
taking out a program add, or even becoming a sponsor of the event. Several businesses in town choose to
sponsor an entire table of ten and then select employees to attend as a
reward for great performance over the year.
Silent auction items are also needed to assist make the event a
complete success. This year’s guest
entertainer is Mike Rayburn “The World’s Funniest Guitar Virtuoso.” The event offers alcohol free beverages,
hors devours, a sit down dinner, silent auction, a raffle for a Palace Suit
for a Piston’s Basketball Game, in addition to the evening’s featured
entertainer. This year’s Master of
Ceremonies will be Ms. Karen Drew from WDIV Channel 4 News. Please consider
supporting this most worthy cause and assist the Troy Community Coalition in
its continuing efforts to promote a healthy and safe community in which our
youth can reach their true potential. For additional
information, please contact the Coalition office at 248- 823-5088.

_____________________________________________ Crime Prevention Tips
Ø If you would like to have the security of your residence
or business inspected please contact the Troy Police Crime Prevention Officer
at 248-524-3464! Larcenies from Autos / Car Theft
Things that can be done
to combat auto theft and larcenies from autos include: Ø Installing a
car alarm. Ø Using steering-wheel locking applications like the
club etc. Ø Applications of a hidden kill switch to the ignition
system. Ø Park in a well lit well traveled area if possible. Ø Always maintain security of vehicle keys. Ø Do not leave anything of value in your
vehicle in plain view. Ø Always lock your vehicle doors. Ø Never leave a vehicle unattended while running. Ø There is a trend of things being stolen from
vehicles in the parking lots of fitness centers and fun centers. While going
to these places, be extra careful to remove all items of value and secure
your vehicle. General
If
you witness a crime: Ø get
involved Ø call
the police It is easier
to catch a criminal if we are called right away, while they are still in the
area. Larceny
Ø Always keep control of all your property. Ø Your belongings are not safe while you are playing
sports or at work unless you have them properly locked or are in possession
of them. Ø Thieves wait for the right time and will take
property quickly. Ø Unfortunately you cannot always trust co-workers or other
business associates. Ø Do not rely on others to watch your belongings. If they fail, you will be the victim, not
them. Ø Be cautious of who you allow into your home. If you
invite guests that you really do not know into your home you are inviting trouble. ______________________________________
