Night Dinner This year’s
annual Celebrity Night Dinner hosted by the Troy Community Coalition for the
Prevention of Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Abuse will be held at the San Marino
Club on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 5:30 p.m. The San Marino Club is located at 1685 E.
Big Beaver in Troy. The Coalition
partners with several agencies in the city to provide a myriad of prevention
and education programs unique to Troy both in the schools and general
community. Topics include drug and alcohol abuse prevention and awareness for
teens and parents; the impact of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco on health and
development; dealing with peer pressure; responsible life choices; the impact
of bad choices on college, career, and health. The Coalition sponsors youth dialog days
where teens meet and share perceptions, problems, and ideas with community
and business leaders. In addition,
the Coalition is a major sponsor of the summer Jam Fest Concert Series for
middle and high school teens, Spring Break Troy Style where organized
activities are provided throughout the community during spring break, and a
summer camp that provides an organized and chaperoned program for kids that
would otherwise remain unsupervised during the day time hours in the summer.
Community forums are sponsored on a variety of topics including media
influence on teens, prescription drug abuse, and Internet safety. The Coalition advocates with community,
political, and business leaders on issues that affect the quality of life for
all who live, work, and do business in this community. Funding for these
efforts is derived from grants, donations, and fund raisers. The challenging economy has significantly
reduced the availability of grants, resulting in greater reliance on fund
raising and donations to maintain these high quality programs. The Celebrity Night Dinner is the key
annual fund raiser the Coalition depends upon to insure its efforts remain
sustainable. This event is a
very entertaining, positive, and upbeat night out. The event is not solely for Coalition
members. Parents, groups,
organizations, and businesses that are similarly concerned about youth
related issues are especially asked to consider attending and supporting this
event. Tickets are $125.00 per person,
$90.00 of which is tax deductable.
Businesses in town are asked to consider sponsoring a table, perhaps
taking out a program add, or even becoming a sponsor of the event. Several businesses in town choose to
sponsor an entire table of ten and then select employees to attend as a
reward for great performance over the year.
Silent auction items are also needed to assist make the event a
complete success. This year’s guest
entertainer is Mike Rayburn “The World’s Funniest Guitar Virtuoso.” The event offers alcohol free beverages,
hors devours, a sit down dinner, silent auction, a raffle for a Palace Suit
for a Piston’s Basketball Game, in addition to the evening’s featured
entertainer. This year’s Master of
Ceremonies will be Ms. Karen Drew from WDIV Channel 4 News. Please consider
supporting this most worthy cause and assist the Troy Community Coalition in
its continuing efforts to promote a healthy and safe community in which our
youth can reach their true potential. For additional
information, please contact the Coalition office at 248- 823-5088. _______________________________________________________________ Child Car Seat Check! It is the law that children under age 8 and under 4’9” tall MUST

their Emergency Room. Jimson Weed is found in the common
plant called the moon

Ø If you would like to have the security of your residence
or business inspected please contact the Troy Police Crime Prevention Officer
at 248-524-3464! Larcenies
from Autos / Car Theft
Things that can be done to combat auto theft and larcenies from autos
include: Ø Installing a car alarm. Ø Using steering-wheel
locking applications like the club etc. Ø Applications of a hidden
kill switch to the ignition system. Ø Park in a well lit well
traveled area if possible. Ø Always maintain security
of vehicle keys. Ø Do not leave
anything of value in your vehicle in plain view. Ø Always lock your vehicle
doors. Ø Never leave a vehicle
unattended while running. Ø There is a trend of
things being stolen from vehicles in the parking lots of fitness centers and
fun centers. While going to these places, be extra careful to remove all
items of value and secure your vehicle. Alcohol
/ Drugs
Be responsible, if you
drink, DO NOT DRIVE! If you serve
alcohol, make sure that your guests make it home safely. Don’t serve
alcohol to underaged children We all must share the roads, don’t risk the lives of others or
yourself. It is not a good idea to mix
Alcohol with other activities like boating or swimming. If you drink, do it in moderation and don’t
drive or put yourself and other at risk.
·
DO NOT use illegal drugs ·
DO NOT drive and endanger the lives of everyone if you have consumed
alcohol or drugs. ·
If you are under 21 years of age, IT IS ILLEGAL to consume or possess
alcohol. If you have any information on illegal drug activity
call our tip line at 248-524-0777. Larceny
Ø Always keep control of
all your property. Ø Your belongings are not
safe while you are playing sports or at work unless you have them properly
locked or are in possession of them. Ø Thieves wait for the
right time and will take property quickly. Ø Unfortunately you cannot
always trust co-workers or other business associates. Ø Do not rely on others to
watch your belongings. If they fail,
you will be the victim, not them. Ø Be cautious of who you
allow into your home. If you invite guests that you really do not know into
your home you are inviting trouble. ______________________________________
