Updates: We reported
the following information on the Daily Media Report on May 19: Somerset
Mall North, 05/18, 9:20 AM: Unknown
suspect stole the complainant’s purse from a restroom stall. Troy Police Department
investigators recognized that the method used to perpetrate this crime was
similar to incidents occurring in 2007.
In those incidents, a male suspect entered women’s restrooms and
waited in a stall for a victim to enter an adjoining one. The suspect would steal the victim’s purse
and exit the restroom. Investigators
learned that victims reported similar crimes recently to police departments
in Chesterfield Township, Marysville and Saint Clair County. Plain clothes Officers
initiated surveillance on the suspect in the 2007 incidents. On May 29, Officers
observed the suspect enter the Meijer’s store in Fort Gratiot Township, north
of Port Huron. He entered the women’s restroom, without anything in his
hands. He exited carrying a Meijer’s shopping bag. As he entered
his car, officers observed a purse inside the bag. Officers also located
a 75-year-old woman in the store who was unaware of the theft of her purse.
Saint Clair County
Sheriff Deputies and Troy Police Department plain clothes Officers arrested
the 38-year-old Detroit resident without incident in the parking lot. In
addition to the victim’s purse, officers found packaged crack cocaine in the
suspect’s vehicle. Eric Dewayne
Rogers was arraigned in the 72 District Court, Port Huron, on the charges of “Theft
