Lay the trashcan on its side and allow the animal to leave the can. We cannot take the animal due to Trapping Ordinances. Afterward, explore ways to secure your trashcan so animals cannot get in.

I hear something in my attic at night, but have not seen anything.
Attic noises can be birds, mice, squirrels, or raccoons. Check the exterior of your home for points of entry for an animal. Also trim back branches that animals use to climb on roofs. If a point of entry is located, an Animal Control Officer can assess the situation, and provide a trap if warranted, for raccoons only.

I hear noises in my fireplace.
In the springtime, raccoons will enter unsecured chimneys looking for a warm place to have offspring. In the fall, raccoons will enter chimneys to sleep. Chimney swifts (birds) will also have offspring in unsecured chimneys. Other birds and squirrels will accidentally fall into chimneys. Chimney caps are inexpensive and can be purchased at local hardware stores. They will prevent access to your chimney by these animals.
