No. Bonds must be posted in cash or through a bail bondsman only. There is an ATM in the Police Department lobby for the convenience of those with a credit or debit card.

What if someone is unable to post bond? What happens to them?

If a prisoner is unable to post an interim bond, we will take them to court and a Judge/Magistrate will reassess the bond. If still unable to post bond, the prisoner will be transported to the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac until their next court date or bond is posted.

If I post a bond, I have taken care of all charges, right?

No. Posting a bond is only allowing you to leave jail to return to court at a later date.

My car was impounded, where is it?

Vehicles are towed to Coleman's/Road One Towing, 1871 Birchwood (Maple and John R area, near Oakland Mall); 248-680-0540.

Questions regarding towing and storage fees should be directed to Coleman's.

Can I visit someone who has been arrested?

No. The lockup facility does not provide for visitation by family members or friends.

Attorneys are always granted visitation when they appear in person with a valid bar card and driver license or other piece of photo identification.

What if a prisoner takes prescription medication and does not have it with him/her?

We make every attempt to have a prisoner's medication brought to the lockup facility so that there is no (or little) interruption in the dosages. Please remember, however, that any medications brought to our lockup must be in a prescription bottle clearly marked with the name of the medication and to whom it is prescribed.

Can I bring a change of clothes for my friend/family member to wear to Court?

Ordinarily, we do not accept clothing since most prisoners are not here very long. In the event a prisoner's clothing was soiled or was perhaps taken as evidence, then we will allow someone to bring a change of clothing for them.

Can I call you to find out if there is a warrant for my arrest?

No. By law, lockup personnel may not divulge warrant information via telephone. Inquiries must be made in person with valid identification.

Why won't you tell me why my friend/family member is in jail?

We cannot, by law, divulge charges on any adult being held in our facility. Until such time as they are arraigned on charges, that information is not a public record. We are able to tell you if someone is in custody and the amount they need for bond.

When do prisoners get their one phone call?

There are phones in each cell and prisoners are allowed to make as many calls as they wish.

The phone system in the cells, however, only allows the making of collect calls and will not accept incoming calls.

What do you do with juveniles? Are they put in cells?

Only juveniles detained for an offense which, if committed by an adult would constitute a crime, are processed through lockup. Juveniles are processed in the same manner as adults inasmuch as photographs and fingerprints are taken. While in lockup, juveniles are completely isolated from any verbal, visual or physical contact with any adult prisoner. Immediately after processing, juveniles are escorted out of the lockup by the arresting officer and taken to another part of the building to await the arrival of a parent or guardian.
